Yup...three years away. And had to walk the last bit of Barnehurst on our Surrey Hill 100 miler on Saturday for the first time in my life. (I blame the heat, not my ageing legs, of course!) So, finally beginning to realise I am not a kid any more. Time for a third chainring on the road bike, I think!

No shame in using 'aids' to get up the hills. I've changed the cassette on one of my road bikes to get more gears and will do the same for the other one shortly.
My brain still thinks I'm 25 despite the aches pains after a long ride or a run :-).

Not about commuting, but fairly compelling evidence that we should all just shut up now and stop oppressing men with our wombs.

A couple of days ago, chrome industries made a promotion in NYC during fashion week. They used models wearing only boyshorts, chrome shoes and mess bags to handout flyers.
They called it an anti fashion statement.
They posted this

Where it makes me feel as if they just say "sorry anyone was offended and didn't get it"I don't get it.

yeah, for real. it's terrible. it's like one of those shitty apologies which says "sorry you're offended" rather than " sorry i/we have done something offensive". i see what they're trying to say when they type:
We’d like to thank everyone who shared their viewpoints and criticism in constructive ways. Those kinds of dialogues make us all better people and help us to continually be a better brand.
but like... no. sorry chrome, you don't get to decide whether someone (or, indeed, a lot of people) being pissed off with you is an appropriate reaction to your action. and you definitely don't get to disregard the most irate or inflamed voices because they make you cringe and you don't have a decent enough reasoned response to back your shitty shit up.
cheers chrome for making it easier for people to associate boobs with girls and bikes, and for involving sexualisation of people's bodies to sell your overpriced products, and then fot not even really acknowledging how you've done some damage.
also
*We are more than happy to continue this dialogue with anyone who would like to do so in a meaningful and constructive manner. *
er, why on earth should i? YOU didn't?
it's not like chrome have ever really exhibited themselves as staunch supporters of women or providers of bike things for women tho so i don't feel that let down...

There is one good thing about this and it's that now I love Surly even more than I did before (which was a lot)

Got called a stupid cunt on the cycle in.
Went to the bike shop – the staff made me feel a bit stupid about a frame I was checking out.
Also thought I saw a nice pair of shorts in the shop. Ah, not in my size and turned to not be my colour.
Went online but they only come in that one colour?
Got some disapproving looks from a coupe senior members of staff on my way out of the office in my cycle stuff.Unlucky day for me. But what if it was 'just another day'? Exactly. Women cyclists fucking rock.

Don't rely on joining up with movements that have nothing to do with your product or that may be using the human body as a spring board to make your product seen. That's just gross and lazy.
This.

Ok massive rant coming up:
Its not exactly cycle related but it has made me so angry and I need to rant so here we go.
Was at work with three other guys working alongside me (I work as a barista), minding my own business when a motorbike crew pulled up. Just then one of my male coworkers was all like 'I'm heading out to look', comes back and tells the other two to go have a look. I'm waiting for him (or one of the other two) to tell ME to go have a look. Nobody tells me anything. In fact, they form a little circle and gush about how sick the bikes look etc etc. I'm like I LOVE MOTORBIKES TOO YOU KNOW. But they ignore me because I think they assumed I wouldnt be in that kinda stuff? Fucking hell
Secondly the same guy at work was trying to convince ME that MY bike is not fixed? I'm like mate it is fixed and hes like yea but most girls ride single speed and think its fixed innit. I'm like ITS FIXED I WOULD KNOW THIS. Anyway I still dont think he believes me cause he kinda stopped talking or maybe hes shocked?
Ughhhhhh why does this attitude still exist?
We aren't allowed to have different body shapes, remember? We are all size 4, have excellent waist-to-hip ratios, perky tits and curvy butts. Yay.
