Ha, you've changed.

When can I actually enter though? It's supposed to be now.
If you were a member on 25th March 2015, which you were, and you continue to be a member until 2017 then you'll enter in January 2017 and your place is guaranteed. Don't need to do it any earlier.

Note I haven't stumped up the cash to ride it yet!
-
• #4255
Ah, so I don't need to worry about this £100. Cool
-
• #4256
Correct. It'll probably be the full £319 payable in Jan 2017.
-
• #4257
OK, it's in the calendar. Let's see if I haven't sold all my bikes by then..

My 5 year AUK membership runs out at the end of 2016, got to remember to renew it otherwise that'd be a major fail.
-
• #4259
Hmm.. maybe I could do the volunteer thing at the finish? I'm likely to finish before a lot of other riders so could be useful at the end? I've no idea when I'm likely to finish though - which dates did you pick?
-
• #4260
Yeah, I checked, I joined for 5 years in late 2014.

For sure you could.
I volunteered at the registration day in 2011 with my wife and it was great fun meeting and greeting riders from around the world, but it was also hard work!
I finished at some fairly early o'clock time in 2011, around 7 am I think. I wasn't in any fit state to really help much that day.
If I rode in 2017 and was a bit quicker and finished in 80-85 hours, rather than 95, then I could have a full night's sleep, possibly in a hotel and then be ready to help out the next day.
From what I understand, one of the areas where things could be improved is the finish for those riders at the very tail end of the field. Most of the volunteers had been there for days and were just tired and ready to go home and the reality is that those arriving at the very end of things are those that probably need the most help getting them fed etc. So, it sound like some 'new' volunteers arriving later on the final day and ready to work until the small hours would be helpful (I can not remember what final cut off is for the last riders - 2am ish? And this time there may be an even longer window as they are looking at start slots as late as 4pm?). If I'd been able to get 10-12 hours of rest, I would be up for helping out at the tail end.
Anyway - it's all a very long way away! Who knows. I don't have to really think about it until 2017, so I probably won't worry to much.

It was 7.10am in 2013. I've got a photo of my watch and the empty road to the school at just that time.
The whole shebang was cleared up by midday and I hung around manning the bag drop returns, left luggage, and lost property until about 3pm whilst Daniel and everyone else went to the pub. At 3.15pm everything left was thrown into Daniel's van and the caretaker was locking the main gates.
I know Adamski from yacf volunteered at the end after finishing and getting 8 hours sleep in his tent.

I'll be riding it quick so won't be doing too much socialising. I miss out on a lot of the international social stuff so volunteering could make up for a bit of that.

Lovely day for a 300k!!

Lovely day on the uni challenge. The Hackney squad have done it again.
Thank you for the tow to Cambridge hippy!
The return from lido to oval was grim. Saturday night traffic through the badlands is grim -
• #4267
Nice to meet you briefly. No problemo with the tow - Pete and I tapped it out together around almost the whole course. It was quite fun not to be 'racing' to finish.
I must've been a bit dopey heading home because I got confused on a straight bit of road I've used many times before and thought I'd taken a wrong turn. Cue a couple of u-turns and some Garmin checking and I eventually made it back for dinner :)
The 50mi TT went as well as can be expected after 300+ k the day before. :)

Machine!
Glad to hear the tt went well.
I quite liked the a40 blast back to the lido.
Just timed it right. Not to early or not to late. Next to no traffic!
Got back at 8.30 to the lido and had some chips and a meh ride back to the bad lands -

I would've stayed at the finish for a drink but wanted to get home, eat and go to bed for the second 4am start of the weekend.

Sounds like it was a lovely ride and the weather was very nice too. Childcare weekend for me though. No free weekends in October so will have to ride a Perm. Hopefully the Chilterns pub crawl on the 1st nov. Another hilly one but fits my calendar and as I did survive the last hilly one I feel less anxious.

Have a write up from a 200km I attempted the weekend just gone.
This picture sums it up in one...

You can cycle in Day Z now? Amazing.
Your mudguard looks as if it got a bit hammered--hopefully it happened within reach of public transport, or could you remove it and still ride?
-
• #4273
:')
Yeah I took it off and unceremoniously crumpled it up and threw it in a bin a bit further down the road. I briefly attempted to remould it then let it die peacefully.

I didn't even notice the mudguard.

From YACF:
Looks like the Irish ride WAW [Wild Atlantic Way] 2100km is going to be LRM and start on the 17 June.
When can I actually enter though? It's supposed to be now.
