Bent rear axle

Posted on
  • I bent my rear axel hitting a bump.

I have searched online but can’t seem to find anywhere that does a rear QR axel to fit my 120mm drop outs. I guess the spindle would sit at 126 sitting on the outside of the dropouts.

They are the original maillard QR

Any ideas where I could go ?

  • straighten it in a vice or tap it out with a hammer. failing that you could just replace with a normal axle

  • Thanks but id like to keep it QR and I'd rather not try and straighten it as it will never be perfect

  • I've had success with just cutting down a QR axle to the right length with a hacksaw. Put the old axle and new one side by side, to make sure you get the right length. You may have to cut an equal amount from each end, rather than just from one end, and use a file to deburr the ends.

  • just stick washers in there, its only 3mm either side.

  • Thanks for the advice. Shop in Notting hill has loads of spare so I'll pick one up there
