  • 32 inch?
I stayed out of the flatscreen tvs on prncipal,
    too power hungry, (plasma),
    2 year warranty,
    sloth,
convincing myself I didn't watch that much TV,
but like you with 'widescreen' broadcasts leaving black bands top'n'bottom on our old 22 inch 4:3 Toshiba, none of us could see the miniscule text during sport.
Eventually cracked and was looking for about a 40 inch to fit chimney breast.
Turned out local Tesco superstore had not-online offer of a vanilla HD 47 inch Toshiba for £400 last summer with free 5 year guarantee. Other deciding factor was the 3 hdmi inputs.
(The cheaper or lower series of branded tvs, assembled in the Vestel factory in Turkey, tend to have just 1 or 2 hdmi sockets). Small consideration but it means hdmi cables can be left permanently plugged in for son's games console and media player, in addition to the hdmi feed from the BT Youview box.
Consumes 44W compared to >100W for the old crt Toshiba, so I can tell myself I am saving money with each programme we watch.

  • Ta, yup similar thinking for us (although we just don't watch enough telly to warrant anything bigger).

    Can't argue for £209 with a 5 year warranty.

Don't need SmartTV stuff as I'll get that in some form of box (BT TV) or other PVR, or a computer attached. If I can even be arsed, have lived without it for years already.

    EDIT: Fucking John Lewis.

At time of ordering website says:

    • 10+ in stock
    • collect in store from 2pm Tuesday (confirmed in an email)

    Now:

    • on back order
    • order status is now "Order Processing"

Need it by Saturday morning, it better be there for me to collect.
