  • Just getting a new telly (can't read the Rugby scores on our old 28" non-widescreen CRT). Nothing special, just a 32" LG Full-HD (non-Smart) TV.

For recording programs, is BT TV (the £5 Essential pack, don't have BT Infinity in my area yet) worth it?

I know a PVR might be better, but BT TV seems a cheaper option (both short term and long term).

  • I signed up for BT TV nearly 2 years ago,
reckoning the 'free' Youview box would be cheaper than buying outright.
Initially attracted by the BT/ESPN Baseball coverage,
then delighted by the UK Eurosport cycling coverage, (all the adverts initially stated it was only the premium UKEurosportHD channels that would have live coverage).
You have to keep up with the Channel changes, ( no end of 'new' QVC type channels to be deleted).
It's no S4y Atlantic but the BT/AMC channel shows Bt are trying to compete with 'original drama'.
The Youview box developped a pink/purplish background tint that no calls to Customer services in India could remedy. An email to the CEO's office brought a swift response of a replacement box 'in the post'.
Over the air updates of the Youview box have caused preset record requests to be lost,
and, the 'internet only' channels have disappeared, but a power cycle of the YouView box and the BT HomeHub5 have always resurrected them.
    8/10 would subscribe again.
