• Any published studies of those compared with a real blood test at the same time?

    http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2014/09/bloodless-lactate-threshold.html

  • I skimmed that, bit busy to read it.

It's an interesting idea, but bases on the fact that people need to know their LT. Personally I don't see the need. There have been some involved discussion on wattage about it. But knowing it can be useful. I'd want to see a real scientific paper on that device. Strange they haven't funded one.

  • That's what I was wondering about. My German is just about adequate to translate 'Kurbelarme und Kettenblätter sind nicht im Lieferumfang enthalten' but presumably the same would be true for a 'fit this L/H power meter to your cranks' kit as it would be for a 'make your single-sided power meter double-sided', so that doesn't really answer the question.

Not that I don't trust you, @amey, but have you got any citation to support that assertion?

  • I am just assuming from this video:
    https://youtu.be/o_TZXYQpB3Y

795 people tested, it would be nice to see some of that data in peer reviewed publications.

  • I find it interesting (but then I'm a classic early adopter who likes gadgets), and will be using it and reporting back.

Luckily I don't mind everyone knowing how pathetic my power output is!

  • talking of pathetic power outpout.
Proxy power. Is it in anyway any good?
I'm using wattSys on turbotraining.co.uk, because I wanted to see if my measly power output on trainerroad was an anomaly.
    Apparently it's not.

I've specified my turbo trainer as the correct model, on the correct resistance, but jesus wept. I look pitiful. And I'm not that bad.

  • If its the same turbo then they may well be making the same/similar assumptions.
Can you borrow a PM? Powertap probably easiest - then you can run that on the turbo and compare the readings at various power outputs.

Also - most people* put out quite a bit (typically at least 10%) less power on the turbo than they do on the road.

    * not me it would seem :(

  • I'll smile sweetly at those people I know with a powertap wheel....

Though last time I had a powertap, I broke it.

  • I have one you can borrow to the end of the month. Although I think it reads a little low.

  • But if the upgrade kit is L/R, what's this at nearly twice the price, which also doesn't include crank arms or chainrings?

  • My garmin gave me a VO2 max of 57 after some 6min:30 Z5 intervals.

Thing is I did 6 at the same power (305w), so wasnt actually at my limit.

If I know I can hold 340w on on the same climb if I'm rested and hurt myself. Is it terrible to scale up the VO2 max to say 60.

I could test this. But it ruins training a bit.

  • That might be a very nice thing.
    When / where/ collect etc....

  • Check with Nick, but I also have a powertap wheel you can use, which might be a bit closer - you are welcome to come and run your bike on my trainer with my wheel if you want, also. The wheel has an 11 speed Shimano cassette on it right now.

  • I am guessing new pricing (upgrade kit) vs old pricing (dual sided)

  • Ah yeah. I'll have a chat with him.

Coming around yours could work, I'd just need to take the cassette off and swap the cassette over.

Let me have a chat with him...

  • I'm back of beyond & Canary Wharf - Waterloo is always good for me though.

I can take the wheel into work any day though if you want to meet after.

Dammit's offer is probably a more practical idea.

  • Damian breaks Powertaps.

  • He IS very heavy

  • It's that, and I have dicks for thumbs.

  • I bet that leads to some fancy wanking.

  • Meta wanking.

  • Didn't your cupboard break it?

It would be worth doing a wattbike test at Cadence. I don't think your power output can actually be as low as you think - you're quite quick.

  • I'm not lending you any of my power meters though.

  • Ha!
I don't think I want to borrow anyone's after what happened to the last one.

Watt bikemade me realise that clinical trial i did should have some of my numbers...
