  • Made this today, took ages, broke my drill and spilt my beer but should do the job, the alu was too thick really and took a lot of effort to fuck about with using a jigsaw, drill, vice and lots of filing.

  • Dear god, my eyes!!!!

That's really ugly. Any problem with striking your heels on the caliper guard? Was thinking of doing something similar.

    Boke.

  • I've just chopped up a 240 rotor which is looking like it will work well.

Got caught and a bit bent the first time out. Not ideal.
Anyone got a 180 rotor lying around?

  • Made this today, took ages, broke my drill and spilt my beer but should do the job, the alu was too thick really and took a lot of effort to fuck about with using a jigsaw, drill, vice and lots of filing.

What's it like getting the wheel out with all that there?

  • It's pretty bad looking, I'll probably get some thinner alu and have another go once I get a new drill. Ain't had a chance to ride it yet, finished it and went straight to the pub but am hoping no heel problems, never hit the calliper and it ain't much bigger than it. I was kinda fed up with it last night but might cut out a little more material in the middle to make the wheel easier to get out, I reckon if I take the nut off it'll come out though.

  • will aluminium not just bend into the rotor then snap when you try and bend it back?

  • No, they're a bit stronger than that. I was ridden into fairly strongly and it didn't move that much and was fine going back. I just think a smaller rotor would be better as it would stick out less.

  • The sheet alu bends ok, as you can see from the stylish and practical calliper guard above, bending hardened tubes if probably different though.

  • I got hyperallah's guard and it's pretty good.
It didn't quite fit my frame so I had to cut bits off and bend it a bit. It was almost perfect apart from the gap at the bottom is big enough for a ball.

That and I had to really bend it to get the rear wheel out...
With that in mind, I've come up with the attached, again design specifically to my DJ bike.
I have the auto cad file also if anyone wants.
    Nearly there.

  • For some reason i can't get this picture to load but, my rotor bash guard! James in Glasgow has wrapped his in paracord rather than just hockeytape and it looks really good. Started building a frame mounted one but realised there were going to be issues getting the wheel in and out. Simply a holesawed circle with some extra holes drilled and te top section ground off for clearance, was a 15 minute job.

  • ^^^ im gonna do this like Colins, much nicer solution i think

  • made one just now, probably took half an hour and had to file the lawyers lips off that side of my fork, is really sturdy though, i think il spray it black

  • in case there are still people looking for front rotor guards: my new rotor guards will be compatible with most is2000 forks. welded design, protects both rotor and caliper.
in the picture, ignore the screw on the left as it can only be used on max power forks, while on any other fork the guard is clamped by the wheel and the screw that fixes the caliper (hole on the right)
will be available in about 2 weeks, approx. 25gbp incl. shipping

  • Paracord wrapped

  • Max Power doesnt do rear ISO guards.

Hyper Allah, you still got any knocking about?

  • Do you want my hideously ugly one?

  • pic?

  • This one?

  • Is max the only choice for disc guards other than making one myself?

  • Production ones, yes, I think so. Maybe a few NA options, Seattle all seemed to use the same ones.

  • Yeah, that thing, it worked well but is fugly and a bit more battered now, I'm FBO trending so have no use for it.

  • OK, what extortionate price do you want for it?

  • Nothing, although you could maybe grab the tshirts I've dibsed off josh until I can get them.

  • Max Power doesnt do rear ISO guards.

Hyper Allah, you still got any knocking about?

    Yes I do.

I went front disc this weekend so I'm designing some front ones too.

  • Mega dredge. @Hyper_Allah, did you design any front guards, or anyone want to share any measurements?

Lightfoot have designed a plastic one. Not sure what it's made of.

Updated the thread title from 'rear rotor bash guards' too.
