Guard mounts aren't the be all, but from reading and considering buying an alu cx bike myself, the Crux is built to be raced/thrashed around a muddy field, as Spesh already has tour/gravel bikes in their line up, it was built as a race machine. I'm tending towards Giants Tcx Slr1, still racey, but listed as a race bike and gravel adventure bike, and has hidden rack mounts so cobbling mudguards on is not beyond the realms, but I'm just gonna get clip ons.
