  • Not a good idea, if you want to keep the clamp working. You will break the threading and end up with a useless clamp.

    Get the correct size.

  • For M8 there are only two "normal" pitches that it can be either 1mm pitch or 1.25mm pitch.
    Obviously 1mm being the finer of the two. Or very occasionally 0.75mm pitch. With a rule measure 10 or 20 threads and doing the sums.

  • Not sure how to get a bolt with the correct pitch, as in I don't know how to measure.

    A metal thread gauge costs a few pounds, plastic ones are so cheap they are given away by fastener shops the way Wiggle gives out Haribo
