Yeah - that was about three years work. I think you could probably do it in two. London Met college run an evening class where they teach and guide you through the build, you definitely learn enough to make electrics in much less well equipped shops (or, sheds :]). Godefroy (http://www.mjsguitars.net/) was my tutor, though he's gone back to France now.
Unfortunately, I believe that the college is financially slightly precarious and so they've massively increased the cost of the course in the past year or so. It's definitely worth a look though if you've got an interest (and they would probably let you build an electric if you asked, which would be a lot quicker).
