  • The revolution has begun comrades!

buys a reel of piano wire..

  • Play something we can dance to.

  • Great, Jeremy! Eat as a much as you can and don't forget ferocity!

Day 1: Kill all the vipers in one's bosom

  • hooray, and, "biggest party mandate for any political leader in UK political history"

  • This is the exact kind of histrionic BS that the right engage in at the moment. "Oh no, you've selected someone to the left of General Pinochet, someone save us from the gulags and secret police..."

  • As opposed to Guantanamo and GCHQ... Nice one, Dave...

  • Oooh. Is it just me or does this all feel a bit real now?

Green Party leader Natalie Bennett said: "The selection of Jeremy Corbyn, combined with the remarkable Green surge of the past year, and the SNP's success at the general election, shows how many people support an alternative to austerity economics."

It does a bit, doesn't it? Doesn't it?

I mean, maybe this actually is the start of something... A movement... A sea change... Maybe today might be one of those days you learn about in History lessons.

Where were you on the 12th of September 2015?

I might go somewhere cool this afternoon so I don't have to explain what LFGSS was to my grandchildren.

  • I was clearly taking the piss.

The starry eyed idealism and knee jerk reactions to the expression of any doubts about Corbyn remind me of when Obama was elected and won the Nobel Peace Prize for having done precisely fuck all. I'll be honest, I got swept up in that (I have an American passport so it did actually have some relevance to me). But that's why I'm very cynical about the atmosphere around Corbyn. Although in fairness I think while Obama was massively overrated at the start, he's massively underrated now.

Hey ho, let's see what happens next.

  • Regardless of anyone's thoughts on Corbyn, his elevation to leader of the opposition is good news for British politics. For the past 17+ years we have had two parties play fighting over agendas that one would have been hard pressed to say were centre left or right.

At least now we have someone who will actually offer an alternative political view that might cause people to take note and hopefully action.

It'll be interesting to see how the red tops split up too.

  • hope this isn't a repost

"This election will take the party in an extremist, class conscious ... direction that will keep it out of power for a decade"

Not written about Corbyn but about Thatcher becoming Tory leader in 1974 by the journalist Woodrow Wyatt.

  • My Mum just got the email from Corbyn thanking Labour members for the win.

    Dear xxxxxxx,
It is a deep honour to be elected as our party's new leader. The honour is not about holding office - it is about the opportunity to serve each and every one one of you in the fight to get a better government for our country.
I want to pay tribute to Andy, Yvette and Liz. As the last few weeks have shown, each of them cares passionately about our party and its values and has made a fantastic contribution to it.
If you voted for me, thank you for putting your faith in me. If you didn't vote for me, I hope I will win your trust and support in the coming months. Whoever you supported, we must come together to serve the millions of people who desperately need a Labour government.
The Labour Party is the joint endeavour of each and every one of us. I want to use your talents to make us stronger, and I want to represent you.
So, help me be your representative. When I stand at the despatch box for Prime Minister's Questions on Wednesday, I want to be your voice.
What do you want to ask David Cameron? Tell me now and I will put your questions to him in parliament. My questions will be your questions.
Let's hold this government to account together with straight-talking, honest politics.
Thank you for your commitment to building a better future. I look forward to working with you.
    Best wishes,
    Jeremy Corbyn

  • Hadn't read that. Brilliant!

"This election will take the party in an extremist, class conscious ... direction that will keep it out of power for a decade"

Not written about Corbyn but about Thatcher becoming Tory leader in 1974 by the journalist Woodrow Wyatt.

  • Man, that's such a fucking awesome quote.

It's interesting that Corbyn has been compared with Thatcher (especially considering how she invented new labour) and to a lesser extent Nigel Farage.

If this dude is still around at the next generally election, things could be... different.

  • The Telegraph and Daily Mail are freaking out…

    :D…

  • this article by Gove is hilarious. Or it would be if he wasn't the Justice Secretary and trying to pass Corbyn off as some socially malicious left wing Bin Laden with the fecund logic of the inbred, over privileged and under-intelligent turd that Gove is... how the fuck is the man still an MP let alone a minister? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/Jeremy_Corbyn/11861281/jeremy-corbyn-ruin-britain-michael-gove.html

  • To be fair Michael Gove knows what he's talking about when it comes to ruining Britain

  • Liz Kendall got 4.5% of the vote. Lololol.

  • Bring on the Blairite purges

  • Literally tens of people turned out to vote for Kendall.

  • There're going to be a lot more attempts by the Right to misrepresent Corbyn. Private Eye did a good comparison of headlines compared to what he actually said...

  • There're going to be a lot more attempts by the Right to misrepresent whoever opposes them.

It's the same old game. Miliband had anything but an easy time in the press. It will be interesting to see if Corbyn can adapt to it or change it some how.

  • camerons comments today

"Labour are now a serious risk to our nation's security, our economy's security and your family's security," he said.

no mr cameron he's a threat to you and your cronies economy and you and your cronies families security, not the general populations

  • Meanwhile 15.000 join Labour in just 24 hours.

  • Interesting times! Great for British politics, hopefully will engage a lot of people. I'm genuinely interested to see how a 'rebel' who has never been one to tow the party line will reconcile that with being on the other side of the fence and calling for unity, appointing a chief whip, and asking for MPs to play ball with his policies. I hope he can keep the momentum going, looking forward to PMQs!
