The accident involving a man riding his bike and a car happened in Portland Avenue at 5.45pm on Wednesday.

A Car flipped on it's roof in Hampshire, no driver involvement apparently.

Except in the second paragraph it talks about the driver.

Well, a policeman who talks about the driver is quoted. The reporter who wrote up the item doesn't seem to quite believe him over the driver's involvement.

Here's an article from last year that's not about drivers or cars at all, but about the perils of grass: http://www.shieldsgazette.com/news/local-news/long-grass-is-putting-our-kids-at-risk-1-6698281

So wants going on with these odd charges.
"Police said Mr Albu has also been charged with causing death by driving a vehicle not in accordance with a licence and causing death by driving a vehicle while uninsured."
If he had been insured and killed somebody they wouldn't have a problem ?

^ Maybe easier to get the charges to stick as they hinge on the having/not having of tangible things (i.e. a licence and insurance)? It's a common gripe of campaigners that the authorities rarely manage to get dangerous driving convictions.

Out of idle interest I browsed his facebook page this morning. He likes fast cars, food, body-building and prostitutes.

Sounds like a lovely chap, I assume you "friended" him.

I think the page is in Romanian, I'm not sure. There were rumours he'd claimed deeplomahtic eeemuuunity but that turned out to be false. Just a rich playboy I think.

A guy from my Club had a nasty accident yesterday. A minor road crosses the major road he was on. A driver drove across without stopping, and the cyclist hit the side of the car at speed. Looks like hes badly beaten but not seriously injured.
What pissed me off, was the shortened headline. Which simply descibes the cylist as riding into the side of a car. I honestly dont want to demonize the driver. He will have the book thrown at him, and will know he scewed up and hurt someone. But the press really need to help the image of road cyclists up here. The sudden increase in Our number has made us very unpopular.

An exceptionally tragic example of the genre here:
http://www.standard.co.uk/news/crime/a2411986.html
Even though two men have been arrested on suspicion of murder, the reporting is that he was hit by a car. I think in this case there is not so much the intention of dehumanising the perpetrator(s) but of reporting simple facts so as not to make assumptions about an unproven case. Still, something like 'the driver didn't stop' wouldn't have gone amiss.
RIP Jerrell.

"Police are believed to have found the car and two men, aged 29 and 30, have been arrested on suspicion of murder."
How long before that's changed to 'careless driving'
Very sad.

It's an editorial decision I'm sure, which is part of the remit of that Guardian Style account. Look at similar questions they address.

yeah but....
many drivers would argue that they have no choice. they have to drive.
IMO it is not just the drivers who are responsible for 'road death.'
... but also the government, the car manufacturers, and the oil industry. they are all involved in legitimising, normalising and institutionalising the driving of cars etc.(aka making danger in the community).
as well daft drivers the powers that be need to sorted as well.
.... elect0ral reform please.
Some comments seem quite reasonable :0)
