  • Cheers all!

  • Columbus Fel forks and Shimano 105 5800 front brake are not collaborating

I need a loooong one of these. You know where I can get it around N22?

  • I am not sure but 32-35mm would be good I think. I just ordered from SJS today, didn't realise until just know that I need a longer bolt. Would love to be able to pick it up tomorrow aand go riding... ;-(

  • Look for nos suntour and shimano on ebay.

  • Thanks. Unfortunately they only go to 7speed, otherwise I would.

  • Any bike shop worthy of the name, will have buckets of tube nuts.

    SJS can be sluggish...

  • And whilst the part will be £2.50 the postage will be £250, and take a month.

  • is it safe to thread an eai cog onto miche primato hubs?

  • I've done it before and I'm still here.

  • It broke and you can't move?

  • Anyone know where I can pick up some liquid grip near old st/shoreditch? I can't cycle anywhere as I forgot my lock this morning :/

  • I'm teaching AS-level students (age 16 and 17) the American Revolution and the British Empire 1857-1914 this year.

Any ideas of places to go for subject specific trips?

There's Benjamin Franklin's old house, and there's an American Museum near bath (though that seems to be mainly textiles and chairs and things), where else might be good?

Somewhere within a couple of hours of London preferably.

  • Consulate?
Though their info may be a bit skewed...

  • The US Embassy is fun, I remember being there and answering those odd Visa questions (moral turpitude? Was I involved in the persecution of Jews in Nazi Germany between 1933 and 1945?) with a Marine holding an M16 standing right behind me.

Don't think they have anything to visit though, no museum.

  • Is there a cheap way to convert a fixed to a 1x9/1x10/1x11 groupset? I don't encounter that many hills and I have a brand new track frame laying around that I want to build up.

    I know of this product:
    http://www.fyxation.com/products/six-fyx-conversion-kit

I would love to have something like this so I can convert it from fixed to geared to fixed relatively easy. The problem with the set above is that I would have to buy different shifters because I don't like those TT ones. I would prefer a simple road shifting version.

It looks like I would need the product on the image below and buy a rear wheel, derailleur, front ring, special chain and a shifter :

Can anyone recommend me something cheap to do this if that's even possible?

  • Starting at 1857 gets you the Second Opium War. Go to China town, tell them about immigration to the UK from other parts of the empire, Singapore, Malaysia etc.

  • Hub gears.

  • How would you get the wider hub required for 9/10/11-speed into a track frame?

  • Thomas Paine was educated at Thetford Grammar School: I'm not sure there is much to see there, but it might be worth dropping them a line.

Or blow the budget and book into the White Hart in Lewes and recreate meetings of the Headstrong Club!

  • Oh I wasn't even aware of that. My first fixed was an old road frame and it wasn't a problem to put a normal fixed wheel in it. Wasn't aware newer bicycles had wider hubs. So I have to buy the package above and buy different shifters. That would fit. Thank you :)

  • Annoying to use, heavy, difficult to swap wheel, maintenance is difficult and I have in general a bad experience with internal gear hubs (Shimano Nexus / Sturmey and several others)

  • Apparently the Washington statue at Trafalgar Square is placed on dirt shipped from his home in Virginia because he had sworn never to stand on British soil again. So that's a bit like taking them to America.

Richard Price (who's at Bunhill cemetery, and whose home is a museum now, I believe) is a lesser know figure well connected to the American revolution, as well as an important figure in regard to the British empire.
