Seen this for sale as a Campag C-Record. Can anyone tell me if it actually is? From my limited knowledge I don't think it is, but I'm sure one of you will know for sure. Thanks in advance

I've recently bought this bike and am looking for the model and any details I can find for replica details/parts. Obviously it's an eagle, but that's as much as I know

The C Record version the top race cup is drilled (3mm holes) all the way round for lightness.
This looks like an Athena.

That's what I thought, that and the little lip that's on part of the headset where there isn't one on the C-record. Cheers mate

About 4 years ago I was given an old Condor Road frame, I believe it's Reynolds 531
I had this converted to Track drop outs and had the forks changed to 1" Ahead and a simple stove enamel paint job with no transfers
I was intending on getting this built up but I had a custom frame built for me!
Is there anyway by the frame number confirming the model and who at condor built this? I'm looking on selling it and I've tried condor several times but they seem to be to busy (I'd love to keep it but it's just gathering dust)
Thanks in Advance

Yup, Athena or Chorus indeed.
-
• #4658
It's actually the top race that is milled out for lightness which is the real differentiation. Early Chorus and Athena don't have this 'lip' in your photos and are virtually indistinguishable from Record. Also early C Record had a standard top nut like Super Record. I've got one on a Gitane which was near impossible to get off!

They probably can't be arsed to look out the frame building records for you. I know Mercian will occasionally charge for the privilege. Waving a £20 in their direction will likely get you a result..

Hmm, I have to disagree sorry. What I'm finding in catalogues is telling a different story.
Chorus also had a milled top race for at least some years... See this image from the 1987 catalogue (First year of this groupset). The edge/lip is hard to spot in this image but I'm seeing it on Chorus equipped bicycles from the era.
Athena always had the edge on the side, along with an extra ridge (picture from 1988 catalogue)
The 1985 C-Record catalogue (first year of this groupset) shows it had a specific locknut from its introduction.
Anyway, these are just the catalogues. Very well possible Campagnolo did some quirky stuff outside of these.

I guess I'm fortunate to have the real thing in fit front of me and don't have to rely on largely unreliable catalogues (the dates of printing rarely relate to the actual parts in the retail chain, and never take into account European or US variations)
Here's C Record from 1986 with traditional top nut:

That looks a lot like a Super Record headset though. How did you tell it apart?

It's got the drilled out upper race, C stamped on the races, but essentially it came off an original complete '86 Colnago which I bought in Milan, C Record throughout with some odd first gen design parts.
What you'll find in catalogues is about 70% of the story, especially with Campagnolo, and especially so with first variants. They're pretty far from definitive. If you've ever been to the factory in Vicenza you can see how quickly they can tool up for modification to a component line, often within 24hrs. I was talking to one of their design engineers who said they'd made over 80 modifications to the Delta brakes - that's a lot of production iterations.
They're not like shimano, where there's only a new product upgrade every 5 years, Campagnolo are special! Rumour mill has it they're introducing an integrated Pinarello specific group for 2016. Can't see shimano even attempting that ;)

Fluidisc perhaps

The decals are just vinyl cuts you can buy ten a penny off ebay. I'd say also a Mavic wheel, and pretty old school perhaps pre 1990, maybe even pre 1985.

It's possible yeah. I have bought them from an old lad.. He couldn't say much about it so that's where the mystery has begun..
Mavic? I'll do some research on that one. Tnx! @ColnagoDaft -

I've bought this frameset from Berlin and got no idea which brand its from.
Got an ITA BB, Gipiemme ends and tubes stamped as Reynolds 501 butted on the low part of the seat tube.
I've found a photo from the BB before i removed the paint. http://abload.de/img/img6035wmfsu.jpg

hello! I'm new in this forum. Recently i've bought a vintage road bike and i can't identify the frame. It has a "f m" stamp on the frame and also on the fork. I identify the lugs and they are made by BOCAMA (B C M - stamp found on the frame). The frame has also a campagnolo stamp on the drops. It has a Moratto sticker on the frame but i think this is not the original paint and the sticker (under the black paint i found white paint and also some parts are originally covered with chromium). I am not sure that this is a Francesco Moser. Please help me!

The decals look home made (or one off vinyl cuts) it's got quite a sophisticated seat stay cap so definitely a frame of quality but can't help you further without frame number.
-
• #4675
i have a denti and the headset badge is certainly not worth of the frame.
the frame number for the Taurus is T0691.
to be honest it's sat gathering dust and i really need to move it on, but want to be sure of what i'm selling...but obviously a donation will be made to the forum when sold.
i've googled but can't find anything, unless you want a ford!

Agreed, but I think Carlton is the best place to start
The frame's evidently been jazzed-up and modernised at some point, and home-spun Carlton stickers suggest that it is actually a Carlton, rather than aspirational (nobody fakes-up a carlton).
