You already have a colour scheme in mind?

• #1053
Hey WimVDD! I've been deliberating this for a good few weeks now and had settled on Saronni Red (your favourite right?)
But then a Saronni Red Super Frame came up in lovely condition and ORIGINAL paintwork so I bought it and that satisfied my craving for the Red.
Finally settled on an off white pearlescent after seeing one for sale and really liking the colour. I think/hope it was an original 70's colour Colnago offered.
Basically I took my Merckx along to the painter and asked for the colour to be the same. Decals came from Greg at Cyclomondo and they're tip top.

Saronni Red and pearl white, I like them both. ;-) The pearlescent white is nice in combination with chrome so have you r forks chromed.
I had an older Diamant resprayed in a similar colour and the sprayer called it "Fiat white".

Oh yer that's nice. That colour in a pearl.
Yes indeed the fork crown is going to be chromed.
BTW that can't be Fiat white, there's no rust spots! (I was spawned from a father who spent his life restoring classic Alfa, Lancias and Fiats, so couldn't resist)Just finished putting the Saronni frame together with some parts bin bits and a couple of Super Record bits. Damn Campag bottom bracket is a 109mm so the chain set fouls on the frame.
Anybody got a 115mm axle going spare ???????????????????
I'll post a picture up in a bit. Really like the black Modolo brakes and Gipiemme black inner chainring as a contrast so originally was going to try and source SR brakes/chainset as and when but now not so sure

Still got cables to do, the BB of course and then decide where to go with it from there. Quite a low cost project and it would be nice to keep it that way so it'll be like this for quite a while.

Very nice! Are that tubulars or tyres?
-
• #1059
Thanks indeed.
Yes they are tubulars on GP4 rims, Nuovo Hubs. -
• #1060
Looks like NOS GP4's, no? I first planned of wrapping white bartape but I found some silver coloured Benotto tape and I think I'll put that on it. Just need some brown leer hoods and a pair of pedals.
In the mean time I'm seriously in doubt of buying a 1991 Master. It never stops, I'm attrackted to them steel bikes like I were a magnet...

You and me both. I keep kidding myself they are an investment but really they are just a time and money hungry indulgence but a damn fine one at that.
Not NOS but pretty good at that. I bought 2 sets recently of a very nice guy local to me and this believe it or not is the lesser or the two sets. The other set is destined for the 70's Super when it comes back from the painter.
Benotto tape is definately the way to go but I didn't have any so good old Deda Mistral to the rescue. It was a bit 'bling' to say the least but a light rub with shoe polish has given it a nice aged patina.
Those brown Dia-Compe hoods are great for the money and fit Campag levers well, Shimano 600 arabesque and modolo speedy. Again a bit new looking out of the box but easy to give a bit of age to.
As for the 91 master there is only one opinion from my camp. Goooooo Foooooor Ittttttttt
Got any pictures if it?

I've sent you a PM.

being critical, so
non big ring fail
saddle fail
brake cable routing behind bars fail
brake lever colour fail
-
• #1064
Weirdly enough all you noted I agree with from a critic's perspective but also they're all the things that I quite like about it and are loathed to change. Except the cables, no inners fitted yet but they may end up in front of the bars.
Work in progress so to say but likely very slow progress as I'm loving it as it is right now -

fair enough, one has to love their creation both subjectively and objectively :)

Cleaned up my 1988 (according to the 1988 catalog) Master and mounted some of the parts I might use for it.

After a 52-54 colnago steel road frame. Ratty condition preferred for a beater/commuter project. Fake colnagos also considered...
Let me know if you has anything! :D -

Hi I'm a fan of this thread. nice Photos and infos guys.
here is two of my Colnagos; a 94 C40 MK1 with Modern Campagnolo Components and a 94-95 Colnago Master Piu with DA 7400 series components.

That C40 ("Lampre"?) is pornworthy but your Master Piu is my favourite.
I added a second 1991 Master to my Colnago collection (not the best photo, I know):

So where are all these old Colnagos that are appearing in the classifieds coming from?
-
• #1071
Ask those who sell over there. ;-)

• #1072
You couldn't resist it after all then ;-) It's a beauty indeed. Happy with it as it is or have you future plans for it?

Another little side project complete. A super 91 I bought from @Diesel a few weeks ago (thanks again). Not a high spec bike with a Suntour groupset but nonetheless I really like it. It looks really 80's and reminds me of the bikes I was drooling over in the bike shops as a teenager. Plenty of T-Cut and elbow grease went into this, nothing really changed except new bar tape, cables, hoods etc. The 70's Super repaint is taking longer than expected and won't be ready till next week when I'll put some pictures up (hoping it's going to live up to my expectations) but for now it's given me plenty of time meticulously cleaning the components ready to build it up. The house stinks of t-cut and alloy cleaner which isn't too family friendly!

Bike stripped down and just gone off to the painters
Most of the parts have been sourced and as much as funds would stretch are nuovo record.
Going to get a fresh coat of paint and have the later added top tube cable guides removed too.
Roll on 2 weeks when it comes back!
