This does actually do the job of slowing cars down.
Usually, however, they are alongside me when they hit it, in some bone-headed must-get-in-front overtake before the junction. They then end up stuck alongside me as they reach the mouth of the junction, and some of the drivers are then thick/entitled enough to then left hook me. Stoooopid.
Not sure what difference having more / less light would make - it's not as if you can't hit the tables at 30mph in all conditions and need to worry about coming off - unless you grab the brake or something. But that assumes riders have some skills, and many of those I've witnessed in RP are very much in a deficit, so I kinda see where you are coming from.
The problem is the cars doing 90mph through the speed traps they put up round the park - which is why they (the Royal Parks chaps) want speed bumps.
Cyclists riding wide and stopping at reds is not going to solve that, but then neither are speed bumps.
Pave, on the other hand, might well do. Not great for cycling mind.
