Nowhere near epic enough.

I had a look at this in the Paul Smith shop on Beak street, it's ok, but I simply could not see the value argument stacking up.
But then I am not a fashionable man, I admit, so that part of the value equation escapes me.

very pricey, kinda average

• #5
is Halfords exclusive distributor?
-
• #6
that flapping hood is a nice touch on a bike.

That gilet is pretty epic in my opinion. I can only think one of the Northies who could get away with wearing that.

Maybe I should change the title to PS 531, average, very pricey

^ Looks like some sort of Steve Zissou collaboration.
So scuba.

£100 for a cycling hat. For a tiny cap. £100??? What am I paying for? Is the peak solid gold?
-

Has anyone bought anything from the 531 range? It looks nice (but pricey, obvs) but was wondering what the fit/quality is like.
Thanks!

Paul Smith is about the one bloke I won't begrudge doing this sort of thing - jumping on the bike bandwagon and charging insane prices. He's just a lovely, lovely man. Have met him a couple of times when I used to shoot at London Fashion Week (daaaaahling). We'd get the interview done and then, despite the fact he had other interviews to do and a catwalk show to run, he'd still stand around chatting bikes for ages - didn't know me from Adam, just loves cycling so very much.
And thus ends my namedropping. -

Still doesn't justify the prices, despite him being a 'nice guy and bike enthusiast'!
-
• #18
I don't see why he should feel any moral guilt at all, he produces a product which people will pay a lot for, and so he charges a lot. Affordable cycling clothing is available.

Prices are 'justified' by him being high fashion. It's not for the likes of you and me, it's for the likes of people who wear PS smiths on a daily basis.
-

TBH I'd hardly call Paul Smith "High fashion". Maybe city boy / lad with a bit of spare cash fashion...

That and I'd imagine them being fairly low-run high-margin stuff where to re-coup design / dev costs they need a hefty pricetag. The amount they shift will make Rapha's volumes look like a supermarkets in comparison.
OK had a look. Prices lower than I expected assuming its technical stuff and it works - even if the design is a bit...eh. But then again I've been looking at this lot and other super pricey US MTB wear quite a bit over the last few days.
Edit: OK the jackets are stupid pricey

Hey, if Vulpine can justify 500 quif for a crumpled 'tailored' jacket, I'm pretty sure PS can.

• #23
So I want this. Anyone have a promo code /discount to their site? Free shipping code will work to, as it will be shipped to Norway. -

Weird that the track riding in that video looks a bit ... meh. I mean, why not get some track racers to wear the gear?

Might just as well wait for this 2016 colourway anyway, not a Paul Smith though so obviously less pricey.
I should have posted this earlier this week but I only saw the prices today

I look forward to seeing you all the PS sale shop in January. And JD in particular...
I look forward to the first purchaser of any of the items, particularly the one below
