Let's put it to the test. Let her stand for election. Let us get the arguments out in the open.
This country's political and constitutional development occurred in the way that it did because people stood up to the crown. Sadly this aspect of Englishness appears to have disappeared as the press and lots of others toady up to them like 11 year old girls to One Direction.

So whilst the moral and financial argument for abolishing the monarchy might be sound, most of the country's kinda happy with the status quo. Might be as much to do with the right wing media as anything, or people's attachment to tradition, or any number of reasons. When Charles takes over, the picture may change.
