  • Chapeau mate! I can't remember the last time I spent even half that long on a mountain bike.

Have you talked yourself into a full-sus 29er now :-)

  • I'd probably get more out of investing that kind of money in to my skills and legs TBH

  • but where's the fun in that?

  • investing that kind of money in to my skills and legs

    Sounds hard.

  • I also went 'full euro' - it was crazy hot at kick-off.

  • Chapeau, sounds like an awesome ride. All this mountain bike talk is really making me want one. Hope you're having a well earned beer.

  • Nice 'attack' position ;-)

  • All this mountain bike talk is really making me want one.

I hear Matt builds those now.....

  • Amazing stuff.

Its far easier to sleep on an endurance road ride. Although the term 'soft verge' is a bit misleading.

  • I did four 2 x 20 sessions which all went over 100km last week. All tough, all a bit samey.

I need to just go out and ride my fecking bike.

  • A nice century along one of my favourite A roads.

  • Decided to pay this guy a visit again yesterday, it has been a while.

Only my 2nd ride this year with some elevation, which is much less than I would like as the Eddie Spaghetti Classic(*) is coming up next weekend, a gruelling 4400 meters elevation combining all steep and nasty Ardennes climbs around the Stavelot-Spa area in 185km. It has La Redoute as a nice warm-up for the legs... within 2km of stepping out of the car in Remouchamps at 8 in the morning. Ouch.

(*) not a 'real' classic in the sense of an organised sportive but just a ride with friends that we do every two years, named after the guy that designed the course

  • Is this a #nocoasttime PR as well?

  • No, that would be the 4:00:56 I did for the National 100.

  • impressive as well. is the difference mainly the slower acceleration or slower cornering when tt-ing nocoast?

  • Neither are really an issue. Just that there's plenty of times when you'd rather be in a lower gear (or as happened on Saturday, a higher gear).

  • haha, no. plenty chilly though

(btw can you please pm me your strava profile I removed it from my follow list accidentally a while ago)

  • Chewing the last steal of summer

  • Went out to Surrey hills on Sunday, on the MTB. Trains were borked so took two hours to get there. Started cycling to the trails. Got a puncture. Fix puncture. Just before trails get another puncture. Fix puncture. Half way down the very first trail, get puncture. Fix puncture. Decide that this day can go fuck itself, turn round and go home. Tyres now in the bin.

  • yearly bank holiday london to paris and back.
very nice, pretty magic foggy morning sights as the sun rises & heats up the hills.

just posting because after a having done it a few times, i have crafted a 200 k route which i think might be of interest to some. it is only taking roads and not the Avenue Verte, enters paris via Versailles and passing a few highlights.

  • 253km fixed yesterday - feat. a cat 4 climb after 175km. Everything went much better than expected.

  • Went out on the big club run this morning after running 24 miles yesterday.

Legs gave in after a couple of hills and I limped home alone before halfway.

  • I was offered up as Domestique for friend doing mcr 100, his longest ride in prep 70 but nervous about going longer and the boredom of being alone surrounded by strangers.

He's a strong rider, we paced it fairly well for a steady 6h15m moving time, stops kept to minimum as we carried enough snacks to get us round.

Sad note rider down within 2 miles of finish, ambulances in attendance and route diversion in place.

Bike Events (company) have had a fair bit of criticism in the past but I thought this was good event taking it for what it is.

    8/10 might ride route again.
