  • So i went and sold my escapade, a thing i regretted about 2 seconds later. After that i started to look for a new bike, but didn't really find anything interesting enough so after some consideration i decided to get something custom made. Some time and many emails later, i paid deposit to rychtarski and now we're playing the waiting game. Got first parts couple weeks ago, and finally today a picture of frame in progress:

Geometry is pretty basic stuff: 73 degree angles, 75mm bb drop. 520x545mm. Only thing different from traditional road bike geo is tyre room; i really want to use my loved kojaks, so rear end and fork length are bit longer to accomodate 35c tyre, and instead of long reach road brake i decided to go canti (or mini-v in my case)

    Columbus max f+f

    Reach 372, stack 566.

    Ral 2008

    Have so far:
    Ultegra groupset (mostly)
    Hope headset
    Kojaks
    Trp 8.4

More component shopping later when i get more dorrahs from work...

  • Can I ask what did escapade not do that this bike will?

  • Absolutely nothing. But you know...

  • Thing is, escapade was the best damn bike i've ever had, but i still didn't quite fell in love with it, and then a dear friend of mine gave me an good offer from it, so that kind of settled it.

I've been thinking about what wheels to get. I'm tempted about superstar's sl23 icon ultra wheelset, but being a heavier fella i'm not sure. I've had 20/24h wheelsets before, but they've all been heavy factory wheels, not light stuff. Do i worry for nothing or should i look something with more spokes, and if so, any recommendations? Theres hope hoops that i know are bombproof, but open pros with 35c kojaks doesn't seem the best idea on paper.

  • but open pros with 35c kojaks doesn't seem the best idea on paper.

people have been running 35c tyres on 19mm rims for aeons without problems, but then again most people don't ride much on paper. :)

  • I am running 35c Kojaks on the exact wheelset you mentioned; havent died.

  • I weigh 78-80 kilos depending on how much I eat. I have them. They're fine.

  • If it helps I ride 40mm Clement CX tyres on my open pros for all kinds of aggresive riding and they are fine!

  • Cool, thanks for the replys everyone. Seems like all three are valid options then.

  • Probably (or hopefully) will be bit darker in live.

  • haha, bizzare. Thought that was my frame for a seccond.

He sent me this today. What RAL did you go for?

  • Ha, what a coincidence! I'm going for RAL2008, with black decals.

  • mine is 2011, white decals. I thought 2008 is darker so yours should be darker than mine. Photo looks a bit washed out.

Kind of wish I had gone with 2008 myself but will have to see how it looks in the flesh!

  • haha, they probably just sprayed them both 2010½ or something.

  • Aye. Unless a RAL (or any other) colour swatch is picked from a printed chart in daylight-temp lighting, it's not really possible to know exactly what you're getting :(

  • I don't mind about the exact ral color as long as it looks good :D
Just received email that my frame is done and should be here probably next week or so. I still need wheels, cranks, finishing kit and some small bits, but before that i need to finish my other project for oncoming winter, so i'll get more bits and pieces when i have more cashmoney.

  • I just googled RAL code + bike to get a general idea of what I was getting

  • Maaan that fork looks sweet. I also have a first world problem with that downtube decal not being in the middle. Ohwell.

Also the color looks more like it should on this pic.

  • At least your bottle cage bosses don't interfere with you having a derailleur... unlike mine.

As in. I can't have a derailleur and a bottle cage on my down tube. Lol.

Interesting that you went for canti studs but no mudguard mounts?

  • How low are they!? Bit of a fuckup. Sram Force 1?

  • Just get a band on step adjuster they cost about £6.

  • Oh damn, have you written him anything? That sort of thing should be repaired for free...

I went mini-v mainly because it can take 35c tyre, otherwise i'd gone with regular road brakes. Some people have been wondering why i didn't go for discs, short answer is that i saw no reasons to do so. Sure discs are great at winter or in very shitty weather, but i have other bikes for those occasions, so why bother. Same goes for mudguards.

  • Looks like a slew of Max-framed Rychtarskis are heading for London. Hopefully work will begin on my single speed cross frame soon. A bit terrified there will be a mistranslation and something different will arrive than specified.

Why did you go for lugs?
