Electro35MC / Vista -
• #10404
I recently acquired a Canon AF35m, sadly however, the focus is shocking.... everything a bit of a blur, strangely however the only sharp focussed shots were indoors with a flash ...
Has anyone else used one? Is mine a dud or are they just that bit too primitive

..so if it's giving you sharp pictures sometimes it means the lens / AF is ok basically.
So must be shake or slow shutter speeds that's producing the blur.
Try one or two without the flash with self-timer / tripod? -

German drugstore chain "dm" now stock both 200 and 400 iso of Agfa Vista Plus - alas only rolls of 24.. fuckers!
While on the topic - I feel I have to correct myself as I kept stating that Vista is basically good for poppin' primary colours, and not able to handle subtle tones well..
Just saw this pic on flickr that made me realize the film is capable of more than I thought (in other words my scanning still sucks apparently) -

Do you do any colour correction in your scanning/post processing ? That was my biggest downfall in my process. I'm still working on it, but I'm now very happy with my colour images.
Scan -> raw -> Lightroom -> Photoshop + ColorPerfect -> Lightroom -> Export
ColorPerfect isn't cheap but so very worth it...

@Dakin - cheers mate
@Franz Beckenbauer - So must be shake - yes I think you're probably right - the same thought occurred to over breakfast - I like to think of myself as steady-handed but the AF35M seems to have a bit of recoil! - must try harder next time.
Also re: Vista - I've only ever seen 24exp 200 iso at Poundland so I've started using Kodak Colour Plus 200 (36exp) @ £1.49 from Snaps - don't know if this is a mistake yet - I used it all the time back in the 90's (10-packs from dm drogerie) but can't remember what it was like - I wasn't a colour-perv then! -

Do you do any colour correction in your scanning/post processing ?
Yes.
But: I do not "believe in" setting neutral (grey) points, as this oftentimes creates images that are "correct" but actually they're not, as there's almost always tints in real life.
So I often do it by feel.
Which basically is a dumb idea, as I have a form of red-green blindness that makes me miss (not see) subtle red or green tints.
Sometimes I know the image has a colour cast, but I don't mind.
To be honest often I'm not sure how the fuck non-red green blind people see it. -

Apologies for the slightly off topic post / sale spam :)
So before I put it out to the world, would anyone be interested in my Polaroid Land Camera.
It's the "Automatic 230" model. I'm just not using it as much as I thought I would.
http://blurdotblog.com/2010/03/polaroid-automatic-230-overview/
I'll sell it with two boxes of Fuji FP-3000B and two compatible batteries.
I'd like £60 for the lot :)

Love that FUCKERS shot!
My t4 has died. RIP. Your plasticy body endured way longer than I ever expected. And I've found myself with an OM4 on the way. Woop.
I'm once again vowing to stop using cheap film and to stop putting so many rolls through plastic cameras. Yes they're fun and convenient but it's lazy and I'm sick of not getting the shots exactly as I intended because I don't have a great enough degree of control.

Cheers man.
Sad to hear the T4 has died!
I sold mine shortly after I got it, both because I also got a T3 and because I figured I would break it quickly given it's fragile nature.. it really is a great camera though!I get your point about putting cheap film through "plastic cameras", though I do see really great images made with exactly these kind of set-ups.
While you do not have much of control, you can often estimate what the camera will be doing, just have to use it in suitable situations (and indeed use some other camera if it doesn't fit).Same with film, basically.
Like that Agfa Vista shot I just posted, there's a lot of great stuff being done with über-cheap Fuji C200 for example... -

Here I offer in exchange for a few beers a load of b&w chemicals, couple of dev tanks, and some b&w paper in 10x8 and 5x7, been in my basement for 5 years but much of it should be ok. Collection Brixton.
