  • 2016 Charge Cooker 0 looks good.

  • New tyres on the way, is that enough of a change to warrant reposting my Lurcher?

  • Only if you have good logo/valve alignment.

  • Does indeed!

Wonder how these ride compare with units and monkeys?

I assume you can swap out the 27.5 for a 29 if you wanted?

Doesn't seem to be any ( obvious ) geometry chart on their website, but nothing looks out of the ordinary. Possibly, they've gone with the trend of "longer, lower, slacker".

One of the things that appeals to me about 27.5 + is that 29er wheels will also fit. I believe Charge didn't go with the newer 'boost' width hubs, which is convenient for wheel swaps.

  • about to dip my toes into SSMTB, many stupid questions incoming. looking to keep it all as cheap as possible.

does the forum have any knowledge/opinions on ss 135mm 29er rear wheels (disc)? frame (inbred 29er) takes 10mm axle.
hubs, this looks good value, but mini freewheel threading limits freewheel options.
the frame I'm considering takes 2.4" tyres at max, what rim width am I looking at?
    thanks all

    Looks lovely.

    Nice bike too :-)

Apart from budget, the main thing worth considering is if you want to use a screw-on freewheel, or a mini-cassette hub. I prefer the cassette type myself, as it's easier to get a perfect chainline and decent quality cogs can be bought quite cheaply.

Cheapset way is using a basic Shimano geared hub and a singlespeed conversion kit .

  • the hope singlespeed hub always gets good praise.

this one is a novatec (D252SB-BO-AA )with aluminium everything so pretty light about 280-300g:

if you use a wide chainline (54mm, outer mtb crank chainring) the dmr revolver with normal freewheel is rock solid (steel axle, nuts, 76mm flange)

and can be flipped with a velosolo type 6 bolt cog on the other side (disc bracket has a chainline of 53-54mm)

  • hope singlespeed hub

    novatec (D252SB-BO-AA )

Both really nice hubs. I have the Hope on my MTB and the Novatec on my road bike.

  • have the hope on my jump bike, 4 years without issue
i prefer the onza single speed kit as it comes with many spacers to get the perfect chainline

  • the only issue with the hope is the noise
had to push my bike 3 miles after a puncture and when i got home there was a slight numbness in the ear nearest to the hub

  • But I guess you don't need a bell

  • stop pedalling 20m before pedo's and they'll jump aside alright

    paedos?

  • If you go for a cassette hub, get a fat-footed sprocket so it doesn't dig into the body.

  • the surly ones look nice, as do the phil
the azonic / onza ones are very thin

  • Is that a 180mm rotor on the rear, Mick? You only weigh about 50kg :-/

  • Both 200mm, a bit overkill but it was welcome back when I had the BB5s!

  • Both 200mm

    Lolz

Be keen to hear what you think of the Ardents. I've been using one as a front tyre for the last three years now. Tried one as a rear, but found it a bit draggy*

    *or I'm getting even weaker
