Audax rides

  • I did Mr Pickwick as my 600km this year. Very tempted to repeat that in 2016

  • My danger with repeating rides is that I'd be more likely to give in as I've already done it. Mind you, I do love rides like:-

    • The Elenith
    • Bryan Chapman Memorial
    • The various Henham/Ugley 200s (covers lots of old cycling roads of my yoof)

PBP would be, I hope, a level above this and something I can go back to again and again trying to ride it in different ways and on different bikes. I couldn't justify the time away this year, but I can work it into a reasonable family holiday in 2019.

Shorter and different events for next year (Marathon/24TT/Ironman/etc) with hopefully a return to LEL in 2017; that should be a whole lot different to LEL'09.

  • If LEL 2017 isn't your thing, there is Madrid Gijon Madrid in that August. It is certainly on my possible list.

  • Come and ride TransAm with us... it's only a little bit further than 1000k...

  • LEL -> MGM back to back possible? Any idea when in August it starts?

  • I'm off to watch Inspired to Ride at LMnH on Thursday - it's going to make me go one of two ways with my thoughts on TransAm!

  • I watched it last time they showed it. It didn't turn me off.

  • Does the Mille Cymru happen as a calendar event or is it only a Perm?
    http://www.aukweb.net/perms/detail/JHA07/

  • Yeah, but we know your a mental.

  • It's a calendar event, perhaps it didn't run due to PBP?

  • MC100K has run 2010, 2014 and probably 2018 - I will ride it next time I have promised myself (2010 before my time, 2014 I was doing the ESCA 24)

  • And I, regrettably, mumbled something about doing the MC on fixed in 2018.

Maybe I should do the Brevet Cymru 400 on fixed first, never been to that part of Wales.

  • Ooh, I'd like to watch that, but am on a three line whip at home for start of term

  • That looks nice. http://www.aukweb.net/events/detail/14-249/

I've put that in the calendar, but will depend on other stuff as the times nears.

  • It's no http://www.aukweb.net/events/detail/16-201/ but does look good (and by the same guy)

  • Gets in the way of TransAm

  • oh you and your planning and looking at dates and stuff.

  • It doesn't happen very often, I have to admit.

  • About time you start with the AAA points.

  • I get quite enough competition in the TT world. I don't need to start collecting points in the audax world too.

  • Actually riding he Brevet followed by the Porkers 400 the next day has led to quantifiable success this year.

  • Not about the points, internet coaching: more beer more hills more win.

  • Let me get this TT season over with, then maybe I'll worry about tackling some hills. I'll need to before TransAm anyway. That and lose about 20kg...

  • Had a few days off last week and managed to ride a variation on the Goyt Peak Super Grimpeur and then the Staffs Peak Grimpeur a couple of days later. I'm not sure if the Goyt felt a little hilly-for-the-sake-of-it or that was just tired legs after Welsh hikeabiking but everything was nice and green for a change!

The Staffs route was excellent, thought I knew where it went but I was mistaken and it turned out to be plenty of new singletrack roads, climbs and some more fantastic views.

    Roadblock...

Spotted a lot of goats and donkeys along the route...

  • Greenwich Mean Climb entered. Ulp.
