  • Is it? Shit. Don't even have a bike.

  • if this weather keeps up we might even get some mud.

  • Potentially interested, what do I need to race other than a bike?

Also do you know if the course is at SS friendly?

  • Everything you need to know here: http://www.londonxleague.co.uk

I haven't raced the course. It looks steep in parts from YouTube clips. I guess you can run those bits.

  • Nothing that steep. Should all be rideable on a singlespeed, if it's dry. Long-ish drag, followed by some singletrack descending, then some grassy corners to finish last time it was there. Good course.

  • I should be, fingers crossed. My fitness is nowhere near where i'd like but hey ho

  • Has anyone tried racing on Specialized Tracer tyres? I'm still running the Rocket Ron's that came on my bike when I bought it, have to say I'm really impressed with them and they served me well at sumners pond. I can get Spesh tyres super cheap, I know a fair few people that have had serious puncture problems with them but they're all heavier than me and still ran with tubes. I know the sidewalls are thin but they're quite light and I can run them tubeless, hopefully reducing punctures.

Would appreciate racers thoughts, have found mixed opinions from general riding but non from people racing them.

  • Good for dry conditions. Didn't really get on with them once the courses got softer.

  • I had the tubular version. Good in dry and damp conditions but struggled in deep mud as they didn't shed it quickly and clogged.

  • Stanmer Park

I googled this. It is in Brighton no?
If I would want to go to this race, what would be the smartest way to get there? I haven't got a car obviously...

Also, Is there regular/weekly training in London somewhere?

  • I took the train last year from Clapham, Stanmer Park is about a 15 minute ride from Brighton Station. And it's all downhill on the way back!

  • Ok thank you. Are all the races of the London League this far away from London?

  • Nice thanks, think I'll go with them and swap out for some mud tyres later in the season. Atleast if I run then tubeless I can drop the pressure a bit more should it get really mucky.

  • Fastest way would be train to brighton station, it's only a short ride out there and pretty easy route to navigate. I'm based in the city centre, happy to meet and form a convoy if I end up doing it.

  • To be fair they ain't sold as a mud tyre :)

    I think

I doubt, if both run tubeless, they'd give you anything over rocket ron

  • Not all, but quite a few.

The next three rounds after this one are all easily accessible from Central London.

Whereabouts in London are you? Hackney GT are doing weekly training sessions on Wednesday evenings. Not sure exactly where but near or in the Olympic Park.

  • I didn't say they were. Just explaining their limitations.

  • Tried to run the rocket rons tubeless but the sealant sweated out the sidewalls, only reason for the change would be to run tubeless.

  • The Hackney GT sessions are near the velodrome/Olympic park/velopark- just north over the bridge that crosses the A12 and before you get to Hackney marshes

  • Uhh great. Found it http://shop.hackneygt.com/events.html

    Anybody on here attending?

I am in Wood Green but don't mind riding a bit to get there.
I have been going to Epping and training there. But I wouldn't min a bit more organized regular training. Meeting other people and all that. Also once I get a job I need to go riding in the evenings and a lit facilities would be nice.

I am used to training at the outdoor velodrome in my home city. 25-50 people attending on regular basis for 2-3 hours free training every wednesday:

  • Yep- I'll be there, been attending the last couple of weeks- good friendly bunch of mixed age/ability and it definitely feels beneficial

  • Cool, I don't know if I can make it tonight, but I will try. If not I hope to see you there next wednesday ;-)

  • Is there anyone running CX training in South London.. keen to do my first cross race this autumn but wouldn't mind a couple of training sessions before jumping straight in!

  • CX training in South West London throughout September https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/events/details/136890/September-CX-Sessions

  • I've never used tracers as tubeless, but I have the tub version. They don't get used a whole lot to be honest because I have a pair of Racing Ralph tubeless specific clinchers which do the same job and are utterly bomb proof. Recommended.
