  • I will, but extraction threads are a little bit damaged on the DS so I don't want to take them off more than I have to. Flatter Raltec is the plan.

    I haven't any more, I got the UCI one with the frame, then bought a non-UCI one and sold the UCI one.

    Fixed used to be UCI-legal for individual time trials, when did it change?

  • After May 2005. You can use a singlespeed, just not fixed.

    Bicycles used in road and cyclo-cross events must be fitted with an efficient braking
    system that acts on both wheels (either simultaneously or independently) operated

    turned to any position in accordance with the requirements of the EN14781 safety
    standard to not be hindered when turning

  • I think the actual regulation is relating to drive mechanisms is ARTICLE 1.3.025:

    “Freewheels, multiple gears and brakes are not permitted for use on the track during
    competition or training. Disc brakes are allowed in cyclo-cross training and
    competition.
    For races on the road and cyclo-cross, the use of fixed sprocket is forbidden: a
    braking system that acts on both wheels is required.”

  • More like the standard UCI response of "We don't understand it, let's ban it". There are not many reasons to ride fixed in an ITT, but there's no good reason to ban it.

  • I forgot who the pro rider was that did fixed on a ITT prologue around 1.300m distance and came 3rd - must have been around 2005 then.

  • May as well post 2016s targets here as well:

    Race less, race longer

    25mph+ average for the BBAR:

    27.5mph average 50 (<1:49:05)
    26.5mph average 100 (<3:46:24)
    22.5mph average 12hr (270 miles)

    That gives me a BBAR average of 25.5mph, so there's a bit of wiggle room.

    Achieved by:

    -At least 10w on ftp (by actually training properly, rather than slacking off and just riding my road bike all summer)

    -Getting CdA down to ~0.190 (currently 0.195ish, new bike will help but most of this will hopefully come from a sprinkling of Aerocoach magic).

    -Stop eating whatever I want and and losing a couple of kg (typically hover around 74kg, there's an easy 2kg that can come off that and more if I really try. Benefits of weight loss have been well proven by several riders this season).

    Big targets perhaps, but I think they're achievable. There's a few other course specific targets that I'll decide on when I plan my race season. A 19 would be nice but means travelling to a fast course on the right day and not too sure I can be bothered with that, e.g. I'd have probably done one this year if I'd ridden the V718 a fortnight earlier than I did.

    Sounds awesome, I can barely manage 25mph for 25miles!! I was tentatively wondering about attempting all BAR distances next season, but a 20mph+ target seems more realistic for me :-). I'd also be pretty happy if I could get my CdA down to 0.2-0.215 sort of region...

  • Sounds awesome, but achieving it will be another matter altogether! Give it a go, long stuff is way better than short stuff.

    Say that again when hill climb season is over, you should be all about the short stuff right now!

  • Hillclimbs take a long time for me! They manage to fit the pain of a 100 into <5 minutes, I prefer my pain to be more spread out.

  • When I was running ultras, I separated it out into pain and suffering.

    A 5k run (or shorter) is about how much you can hurt yourself over a short period (pain), while a 100mile ultra is how long you can sustain a moderate, and rising level of discomfort (suffering).

    Where running was concerned I was better at suffering.
