So long as you only book while in the race. Just like you could an hotel.
Even if it were allowed, booking in advance is tricky as you force yourself into a schedule that may not reflect reality (headwinds, tailwinds, etc). Even a few hours slower/faster than expected and that plan will begin to fall apart.
