I overtake slow cyclists when there is space.
He overtakes cyclists at the same time.
Then because I'm overtaking slowly because of the general road conditions* he tries to go past me at the same time on my inside.... I think "undertaking" describes that. That means I have two sets of cyclists on my inside so I have to move further out to make sure there is enough space.
Admittedly I could have just not bothered and made the judgement that if he is confident enough to squeeze through small gaps he is perfectly able to manage his space without me giving any more.
Or he could have just taken up a car / motorbike like position on my tail and dealt with riding at 17mph or whatever, where I can see him, and wait the couple of hundred metres until we are past the line of cyclists.
*x'ing near a housing estate, lots of roads to the right I know people come out of, etc. etc.
