If you have enough clearance for tyres and like the geometry sure why not. I am a strong believer in aggressive geometry for sscx, no doubt.
The studs are really realy cheap from ceeway, but I have actually had great succes cutting them off trashed frames and reuse them. You could make something like this
But they don't need to sit perfect. You can make the brake work even if you just eyeball it.
What I am saying is that, although risking your frame, you could do it yourself or get a local blacksmith to do it for a case of beers. -

Well yeah exactly, I like the geometry, owned it for a while now, I'm comfortable on it
There is a few local garages, I guess I can ask them about it, but I don't exactly have people skills so not sure how id go about that, good idea though, but I'm also happy to pay to get it done professionally, I can't see my self selling it any time soon, so spending 100-150 doesn't really sound like a big deal with all things considered

I reckon this is about as spot on a winter bike as you can get. Simple, no fuss, and just enough anti not to be precious about it. Proper good.
One thing did occur to me though (and I don't know if it's been tried and tested before)... would it be possible to add a couple of the plastic mudguard QR clips to the rear mudguard stays? That way you could just ping the mudguard off if you needed to replace a puncture over winter?

Cheers! Yeah, I'm loving it. Position is exactly the same as my road bike, never got on with a bike so quickly. Did 50 miles today in the pissing rain in such comfort, mudguards are a revelation.
I've heard about using QR clips on the rear mudguard, but I've got just about enough clearance to get the rear wheel out when the tyre is deflated (tested today, thanks Paves...)

Is that Dorney Common?

I'm totally getting that bar tape, such shine.

Yup. Nice way into Windsor from Marlow/Cookham

Since you have Paves, it's even nicer to take the path by the Jubilee River. The Thames path from Maidenhead bridge to Brocas Meadow is doable on a fixed road bike when it's dry, although there's a bit round the back of Dorney Lake which will be a bit muddy after all this rain, so I'd stick to the Jubilee which has an all weather surface all the way.

Will investigate. Though Paves are currently on the naughty step for being defeated by a bit of flint in Henley.
-
• #103911
Flint will get you every time. The all-weather stuff on the Jubilee and Thames paths is made from soft rocks, more like Strade Bianche. Never had any trouble on it even with more pure-tarmac tyres.

It was pretty damn muddy this weekend in places. Because of my slack ST angle there's still quite a lot of space by the BB shell for mud to pass through on both sides of the bridge. When the thing is painted properly I'll take detail shots of the frame.

Looking to take delivery of a 1984 Batavus Pro with full Shimano 600 gruppo, six speed. Can I fit the cassette to these wheels? They would look great on the blue and yellow bike .
-
• #103914
Shimano 6-speed cassette needs a UG hub body, the top sprocket threads onto the body to hold the rest of the cassette on the splines, no lock ring.

Currently running a 23mm conti GP. What are my chances of fitting a 25 in here, slim to none?
-
• #103916
Wider rim would help if thats an option. If not a ball bearing in the dropouts would work too

• #103917
Unfortunately that leaves me none the wiser but ta

Don't do this.

I'm not aware of any Mavic wheels having had UG hubs, Mavic didn't get into the boxed wheel business until HG was well established and UG was a relic of the past. First Cosmics were 1994, HG replaced UG about 5 years before that
-

So I am ten years out so unlikely if not impossible to match these parts, without an overhaul of the drive chain
-

You not only have the problem of 6-speed UG cassettes not fitting on the HG body of the Mavic wheels, but your frame will be 126mm OLN if it was made for 6-speed and the wheels will be 130mm to suit later 7/8-speed practice.

Its been done plenty of times without issue. Obviously depends on the dropouts and how deep they are

So has incest. What's your point?

People do stupid things all the time with no issue... this doesn't make those things any less stupid, or the 'failed' cases any less painful. I suggest you read up on Abraham Wald.

Abraham Wald.
Did he eat asphalt after jacking the fork-ends of his sick NJS whip?
Fatties fit fine? I can paint it my self for free, why not put v brakes on a steamroller, just something different and looks like a lot of fun, changing frame isn't really any cheaper or less hassle.
I do like the cross check and pacer, but yet to decide
