My guess would be debris jamming the cassette body partially, against the axle.
The question is, where did the debris come from?
Top bet is probably a cassette body bearing that has broken up - not terminal, we can replace those, even in the types (2000 up to 2014) that were not designed to have the cassette body bearings replaced ... we developed a way to do it that is reliable and leaves the body easily serviceable in future too.
With the scoring on the axle, we would advise replacement - alloy alloys are notorious for fracture at stress raisers, and scores that deep, even in a thick alloy axle, would certainly qualify as stress-raisers!
The axle you need is FH-BO001, cost at RRP £47.25. We have stock due on 02.09.15 (normally we have a few in stock but out at present, we don't sell them that often but did sell a couple during the factory holidays).
Cassette body service with a pair of high-end SKF or FAG double-sealed bearings - £40.00 against £79.00 for a new body.
