  • Hit man... Although that new transporter looks equally dire.

  • Ouch. Even I wouldn't touch that with a barge pole, and I love action cheesefests. Why would you do that to yourself?

On a related note, a friend of mine sat next to the creator of the Hitman games at a dinner event recently. He asked him what he thought of the films, and apparently the guys just put his head in his hands.

^ made with the 70s psychodrama toolkit.

Also reminds me how brilliant Martha Macy May Marlene (2011) was:

  • Oh I only went because I had a free cinema ticket and there was nothing else I wanted to see. I still want a refund.

  • Think I'll watch Lucy tonight...

  • late to the the lucy bashing (oo-er)

    utter excrement

  • mission impossobro

    bit long, but entertaining

  • Watched A Most Wanted Man last night.

Reviews are mixed, but I rather liked it. Above all, it made me impossibly sad that Philip Seymour Hoffman is no longer with us. Damned good actor, that man.

  • Entourage movie.

left the room in protest/disgust and played violent tv games instead.

  • movie theme night ideas.

my vote is: evil dead. evil dead II. army of darkness. dirty dancing.

    failing that, hit me up.

  • Synecdoche, New York (2008)

I loved Adaptation but had missed this (I don't remember any press/trailers, it bombed – it's very weird). I was/am pretty blown away. I watched it again the next evening!

Agreed, absolutely amazing film. I remember it felt like I was tripping out when I left the cinema, definitely need to watch it again. Charlie Kaufman is premiering a new film at Venice film festival I think?

On a similar theme I saw the new Jodorowsky film tonight, The Dance of Reality. Equal parts insane, confounding and brilliant in a way only he could be.

  • On a similar theme I saw the new Jodorowsky film tonight, The Dance of Reality.

Gonna have to see this fucking ASAP.

  • saw Marshland tonight. brilliant

Concur, a True Detective (1st series) of Andalusia

  • Straight Outta Compton.

    Worthwhile imo.

Cinema added good atmosphere to score.

  • ^ I enjoyed it too, liked the way they covered the Ice Cube split especially, the No Vaseline scene was very well done. Better than I expected and they picked a great soundtrack

Also watched at the weekend; Trainwreck - the title describes the film perfectly, and Terminator Genesis - zzzzzzz

  • Turbo Kid. BMX future bandits, gore, ice hockey gear, tangerine dream & michael ironside all filmed in a quarry for £9.50. fant fucking astic.

  • Stop the press!

    It follows was really good.

  • Charlie Kaufman is premiering a new film...

Good! Synecdoche lost so much cash I feared that was him done.

  • Cop Car.

A Kevin Bacon vehicle (ehem). Just not really very good.

    Watch Duel (1971) instead:

  • Duel is so good!

I watched Clerks again last week. 36 guys!? So good.

Just on the way back from watching The Gift at the fancy new Picturehouse Central. It's unpleasant but really well acted and even though some parts feel like you might have seen them before, there are enough twists to keep it interesting.

  • Although that new <anything with Jason Statham> looks equally dire.

  • What's the new picturhouse like?

  • Very flash, but done up in a really smart way. The seats were comfortable and the sound was really loud, so what else do you need? Hopefully they're paying their staff enough, it's pricey enough to justify that.

I bought a membership yesterday because mine had expired and the cost of a new one was the same as the four free tickets the membership gives you, so I'll definitely be back.

  • Pitch Perfect. Aca-mazing.

Pitch Perfect 2. Aca-not a patch on the first one. Let's face it, as a film theme, it's no cheerleading.

  • Ok, I sat through terminator genysis and heres the thing it deftly removes not only the dire sequels from the continuity but also references the good t1 and t2. It nicely sets up for a new trilogy, which I think I remember reading was the plan, by leaving gaping unanswered plot holes which clearly will be addressed further down the line. It introduces a younger cast and nicely deals with technological developments since the 80s/90s. Arnie was entertaining and at least referenced his decent into fossilization. All told I thoroughly enjoyed it. You need to accept its a partial reboot and a solid no brain action movie. At which point the film is decent.
