  • Gaston's thread.

  • New biek. Waiting for a Surly rear hanger and possibly wheels at some point

  • Columbus spirit rounded rectangular TT for easy shouldering, max DT and ST, Zona fork and Zona CX specific stays with custom bends/dents, 68mm road BB and 130mm rear spacing.

Pretty much the exact same tubing configuration I was thinking of for a Rychtarski SSCX build.

You have a photo of the BB/chainstay configuration? That's a alot of clearance given the 68mm bottom bracket and (what looks to be) short chainstays.

  • I have 45c clearance on my short Zona spaghetti stays, can take pic if you like.

  • After doing last winter on my road bike sans mudguards, and the one before than on a brakeless Vigorelli, decided I needed a proper winter bike so picked this up from @furious_tiles yesterday (thanks!)

Nice and sensible, put new tape and Paves on (obviously). Not sure if the Zoncolan will stay, and wheels will get upgraded to something fashionably wide at some point, and I fancy one of those Bigxtop Rando bags for a bit more luggage capacity on long rides. 48/18 for the time being, probably switch to a 19t towards November. Plan is for lots of miles including 300k audax over winter as 12hr TT prep.

  • new tape

So I can put mine back in the parts bin?

  • fashionably wide

At the risk of sounding edscoble... a 650b conversion would probably work.

  • I had semi-entertained that notion. Is it really worth the expense/hassle?

  • Not sure if a 300k audax is needed for 12h tt prep. Depends how many hours you have though. If you've time to spare.

  • It's more as a nice target to make sure I get miles in over the winter. Would be good to get the hours in the saddle though.

  • I'll grab a proper one later

  • clever, although the struts look a bit feeble at that angle.

  • Only if you want bigger tyres (with guards).

You'd get 32mm in certainly, which I like for winter. I always found I was avoiding certain rides/roads/weather or just not enjoying them on 23mm and I couldn't get 25mm in without issues.

You'd need new brakes and guards and an alternative to the green tyres.

  • The Corsa Extra "Team Stuttgart" was a bit too large for me. Almost a miracle I found the same but in a better fitting size. Can start (re) building.

  • Need to get this dirty.

I want to get some V-brake for it, any recommendations as to who to go to about it? Bob Jackson, or Mercian cycles maybe?

  • easy job... just go to your local builder

  • I don't know of any local ones, so i'd have to send it off to some one anyway.

  • I think Lee Cooper is based near Cov, my mate inquired about some work a couple of years back, never got round to it though. Might me an option

  • lee cooper is not taking any orders anymore

  • Guess i can't go to them then.

I don't really mind paying extra to get it done properly.

  • What tyres are those?

  • 42 Schwalbe Hurricane
