What is the evidence that the cyclist gave the twat the finger? I've only seen the video without audio. Does she say something like, "Here, fuckface, swivel on that!" or is it just what twat has to say as his justification for the inexcusable violence.

Interesting take

The apparent thrust of the article, that a road user's sex should not affect one's perception of their rights, is entirely correct.

Linking it to the current incident via three tweets, none of which mentioned the cyclist's sex, is a bit Phil Space though.

Those tweets don't need to mention the cyclist's sex because all you are once on a bike is "a fucking cyclist"

some of the armchair finger waggers in the comments section would do well in this thread.

Frankly it's a bit of a beat up for Ms Frizzell to hype this up to a feminist issue when this unfortunate lady cyclist's predicament can be filed under "shit happens" in London.
Of coarse she shouldn't be assaulted by random inadequates roaming around East London. On the other hand, when it's not a state secret that random inadequates are out there, she shouldn't be giving one of them the finger and a sarky comment.
Especially if she's going to cycle that slowly he can catch her up.
She'd have been better off settling for a cheery "good morning, excuse me" or, if she was in the mood for cycling slightly quicker, blowing a non-specific raspberry and leaving him fuming in her wake.

Personally I think I can judge each of their actions independently without it steering into victim blaming territory.

It's "She was a bit of a dick and he was a violent cunt who needs locking up" rather than "She was a bit of a dick, and that's why he was a violent cunt who needs locking up."

There's a difference between me thinking she was a bit of a dick, and somebody else commenting online about how she sort of asked for it because she was a bit of a dick. I appreciate how it is easy to confuse the two though.

Agree with all of that. I totally understand the reasons for her behaviour, I've done very similar/worse things myself and have felt like a dick afterwards.

There's obviously a huge difference in the levels of dickishness on display, and I'm not comparing the two. I don't think that recognising her level in any way defends the behaviour of the bloke.

But there's confusion because some people (I haven't read the comments on the usual places tbh but I imagine) are highlighting her behaviour in order to defend the bloke.
