Bikepacking - a viable alternative to racks & panniers

Have you tried it anywhere with thick clouds of mosquitoes? I tried 3 different repellents in the Rockies, nothing worked. I went for one piss in Colorado, and got 4 bites on my bellend (I didn't think to put repellent on it)! My mate went for a shit and got hundreds on his butt cheeks!
