Seeing so many people in London still riding in the gutter, squeezing in a small gap left past lorries and buses while filtering... stopping at lights with a foot on the kerb one behind the other while the rest of the ASL is empty...cyclists riding in the car door zone
...after decades of training cyclists in London. How long will it take for the message to get though -

Feel your pain D.
Look at it this way, even all this ride london weekend activity, other summer stuff contributes to that glacial pace culture change U.K - and YOU propel the furthering of independent active travel by bike the most, even if there are more choppers and nodders riding about unskillfully London leads the way with change.
Regions have to follow, we have way fewer riders on road but you have the numbers already, its the way of things, have faith in your mission you must -

Thanks for the pep-comment J. Indeed better many nodders and choppers than none. See you on 23rd at Tins in the park :) We can hatch some plans and scheme some dreams

The taxi driver who decided to try to overtake the group I was leading despite us having signalled we were turning right, he then forced his way through our snake and deliberately drove into me.
-
• #12
Wtf? You got his details?
-
• #13
No, did not get his details but filled in an incident report. Did not want to make too big a fuss in front of trainees. My answer to what could we have done differently was "sweet FA".
behaviour like this reminds me of adroit's post when he considered giving up the job.

Today I had to intervene when a driver tried to overtake a trainee who was trying to turn right.
In front of my trainees he started shouting at me “what the fuck did you think you are doing” so I explained I was stopping him from trying to overtake when someone had clearly indicated their intention to turn right.
He then said he would fucking hurt me if I did not get out of the way (while my trainee was then going to be the next person in his path).
When I got my phone out to take a photo he asked if I “fucking want to die and then i’ll take your camera”. I politely declined this offer and he then sped off.
I returned the kids to their school, reported the incident to the relevant staff and then went to the nearest police station to report the incident.
Advice from the help desk was that it would have been better to report this via 999 as an emergency, as the car would then have been circulated to all patrol cars and would be much more likely to be pulled over. Reporting it via a station downgrades the situation in the eyes of the police.
I love my job but don’t deserve to have people threaten me in this manner.

Wonder how often that happens during training?
I have never had more than a hoot from drivers when teaching young people, and the occasional impatient overtake
Thanks for the advice DJ

Cycled out to Brent only to decide it was too wet and not enough of the kids had waterproofs/stuff to deal with it so cycled all the way back. On the up side I was back home to accept a package sent form planetx with some bike stuff to cheer me up.
Having to go to page 2 of the list of forums to find the cycle training forum
