  • Anything, don't do 11 speed as the chain wear out surprisingly quickly, I'm on my 4th one in 2015, whether on the original 8 speed 650b, it last a year.

If you really looking for low maintenance, go 8 speed, 11-28 have a reasonable jump in the middle paired with a 44t chainring.

Can work with any 8 to 10 speed derailleur, and 8 speed chains are cheap as chip too (even cheaper due to it's longevity).

  • cheaper the better (also reliable); the original plan of SS Talbot for missus has now been 'upgraded' to 1xsomething ..

    what crankset do you suggest?

  • Cheap square taper track, like the Lasco one, but they only have 3 3/2 in one size annoyingly enough, unless you have a spare 3 3/2 130BCD 44t chainring that is.
