  • Small clubs over performing have to sell their best players each year because they are not big enough/successful enough to keep them. They then have to plough this money into average players to patch up their fragile and badly exposed squad. Sometimes they get lucky and one of these players becomes good enough to spearhead a short lived shot at glory. They then have to sell this player to a big club. They then reinvest, net spend looks good and their supporters hold this up as some sort of indication of their superiority of the big clubs. Who just bought their best player.
