Do you not remember the Mongoose single speeds where they painted the rims.
And all the cheap MTB whose rims was painted black because it look cool.
They squeal and grind but eventually braking surface start to show.
Bit silly to go through this fuss just to gain that all-black appearance.

I'm not doubting anything.
Mavic built a rim for disc brakes. They've possibly not built it with any regard to a set of brakes wearing away at that part of the rim (as they might do with a rim designed for rim brakes) which will of course effect its strength.
Although by the looks of things its overbuilt (as I said) so will be fine.

They built it with total regard for rim braking I think, then updated the marketing blurb over time as people wanted disc rims. I don't think the rim has changed - they just printed a new sticker with 'disc' on it.

Rawland Stag (more here: https://flic.kr/s/aHski6no2F ). I am pretty sure we are about to see Rawland introduce a new low trail disc frame with tolerances for 650b-700c wheels. Assume smaller sizes will be 26" which would continue the recent Rawland trend. This will put them in direct competition with the Elephant NFE and could start a trend among some of the niche builders. Velo Orange also look like they are about to release a disc build too (as pointed out previously here).

I´m really looking forward to the Ravn. Pre-order is already up I think. Built to take the new Compass Rat Trap Pass 26" 55mm tyres with mudguards. Low trail, thru axle, optional front rack. Sounds pretty awesome to me. Found this picture, not sure if it is the Ravn or a different Rawland prototype:

Yeah me too... Rawland do have a loyal band of followers who will buy regardless but they is a tendency for things to disappear, get last minute changes or for complete silence for months after putting down a pre-order payment... From what I understand Sean from rawland always pulls through in the end.
I was advised not to put down a payment for the Ravn Pre-order as despite the website asking for orders the design was not finalized... Last I heard was a couple of months ago.

It looks like there's a few of this sort of thing coming along over the next year. I'm awaiting an Elephant NFE and am looking to build something similar for my wife next year, preferably 26" wheeled version.

Schwalbe has some nice options in 40mm and 44mm.
Well mavic think they have, not sure why you'd doubt them.
People ride painted rims (Archetypes for instance) and die only of natural causes. Did Mongoose use thick gloss enamel or something?
