    Plus they'd not just squeal they'd barely work.
    Do you not remember the Mongoose single speeds where they painted the rims? No braking until the paint melted or chipped off. It killed brake pads and didn't really stop the bike.

    People ride painted rims (Archetypes for instance) and die only of natural causes. Did Mongoose use thick gloss enamel or something?

    And all the cheap MTB whose rims was painted black because it look cool.

    They squeal and grind but eventually braking surface start to show.

    Bit silly to go through this fuss just to gain that all-black appearance.
