Think I was a bad cyclist the other day, undertook away from lights and could tell the other guy was scowling at me but then, what does he expect when he enters the asl and pulls across it to the point where he's sitting central to the car behind, then takes an age pulling away in the wrong gear and struggling to get into his road pedals?

I'm wary of doing that at ASLs, it's sort of a failed overtake if you are that guy stopping in the middle and know someone is to your left. If I find myself like that I just talk to the person left of me and go "do you want to go first?" so they don't go home stressing about the undertake and posting on forums about it.

I do this on a daily basis. It's their fault for putting themselves there. You can't be expected to wait for every slow ass numpty on the right to get in front of you, then overtake them.
Also, I wouldn't even consider it an undertake since its from stationary.

Inside line is the fastest line... or something.
-
• #11806
It is. You get better aero nearer the kerb and buildings. It's why racing cars always hug the barriers. The only way to defeat inside line is with leg trips.

If I'm on a shared path/canal path I often say in a cheery, friendly, non aggressive voice "ting ting" (like a bell) from quite far away. This almost unanimously gets them to move in plenty of time, give plenty of space & normally give a friendly smile in for the bargain which I always meet with a "Merci, bon journée" (I'm in bloody France). Normally works quite well with everyone happy & no bell misunderstandings.

"Fuckin bellz"
Needs more alliteration.

If you weren't in France, that would have been a truly awful thing to say.

I hate it when people call out 'ting ting' from behind me to try to get my attention, that's not my name.

Calling out the clusterfuck crossing NKR traffic lights around 6:45/7pm this evening. I know you want to get home, but really, none of you got past the kebab shop any faster for your dick moves. Especially you, small lady with the bike a size too large and terribly close passes on everyone along the pedestrian path. Sprint-overtake on the road, but why on that horrid stretch of pavement?

Chap on a Boris bike with his phone out and his headphones on approaching E&C from the South this morning. Death wish.
I'm not entirely innocent this morning though - cycled out into a junction that wasn't clear yet only to get stuck half way when the East-West traffic got their green light. Poor decision. Lovely chat with the lady on the touring bike who joined me on that particular adventure though.

Tend to disagree. Bell ringing (just a couple of pings) should be done from a distance, so as not to startle people. A friendly wave or polite thank you completes the interaction. If you are close enough to speak with people before first notifying them you are there, you are too close and could surprise and distress them.

This debate has entered its Beatles-Stones/Deep dish-Flat crust/Hitler-Mussolini phase.
We all have our favourites. (It is, however, Stones and it is vocal communication.)Pur-lease....

Traveling south on Gower street and waiting at the lights at the junction with Torrington Place in the bus lane with two other people on bikes, and a police van next of us. Long before the light turns green, one of the two wobbles her way across the junction. Myself and the other chap exchange looks. After the lights change, I catch up with her and mention, "you do know you just jumped the lights with a cop car right there..." she hadn't noticed...

Speaking of bell ringing, anyone remember those things to put on side of bars to make it sound like a motorbike.

Talking about this.
Think may still have mine.
(For sale on Amazon!!)Rotate handle and it revs up.
Everyone knows thin base is best, unless it's a deep dish with stuffed crust.
