  • Just saw this. Would have been unlikely I'd have thought. The only place that used to stock a selection of valves in town was Regent Sound but they were pretty pedestrian; Groove Tubes and EHs. Plus 6V6s aren't anywhere near as popular as EL84s and 6L6s so I'd be suprised if they had any of them.

I'd just place an order from Watford Valves for some nice NOS bits. They probably sell a Champ kit for not that much. I long since stopped buying cheap new Chinese and Russian valves. I found it was far better to spend a bit more on some nice old European toobs and have them last ten times longer without going tinkly and microphonic.

  • Thanks for the reply.

I phoned the Vintage Guitar Boutique which looked the best bet and they said pretty much the same thing.

Did a bit of digging around yesterday and found that a lot of people playing Champs seem to go for RCA valves. Then I saw the price. The next most popular option seemed to be Tung Sol so I went for that.

All I bought was a pre-amp as the other valves were included, I'll see how they sound before buying more but for the 6v6 (if I need one) I might go for something a bit more special.
