Lightroom works well enough for me, Photoshop was always overkill and too fiddly.

aye, I was only going to get Lightroom but Adobe have a deal on where you get Lightroom and Photoshop for £6.98 a month at the moment.

There is an app called OnOne Perfect Effects, v9 is free as it's an older version, it can be used as a Lightroom / Photoshop plugin as well as a stand alone app. It has loads of presets and some basic controls, it might be worth taking a look.
