• Maybe welded gussets to seatstay chainstay crossing to compensate the loss of durability due the drillings for dropouts. Then just big gussets in the middle of the frame. Preferably you just sandblast the frame and then go cut the gussets from 4-5mm aluminium sheet (any tools are okay as the welds are covered with filler). Then just go with raw frame to a metal shop and tell them to weld all at once! Keep in mind that for the frame you dont need welds for the whole gusset.

  • Thanks for the constructive feedback - I was thinking about seatstay-chainstay gussets to try to clean up the mess and reinforce a bit - don't you think 4-5mm would be a bit overkill though? Do I need to sandblast to get back to the raw aluminium, or is stripper ok as well (someone else had recommended that).
    Also, do you have any recommendations of a metal shop that would do the gussets (obviously tig-welding because of the alu) ?
