this is a Mondrian-themed idea (inspired by #looklooklooklook as well, of course)

Is that QR structural?

Maybe welded gussets to seatstay chainstay crossing to compensate the loss of durability due the drillings for dropouts. Then just big gussets in the middle of the frame. Preferably you just sandblast the frame and then go cut the gussets from 4-5mm aluminium sheet (any tools are okay as the welds are covered with filler). Then just go with raw frame to a metal shop and tell them to weld all at once! Keep in mind that for the frame you dont need welds for the whole gusset.

If he could weld it wouldn't be the abomination it is now. Can't see the gussets being welded in...
My guess is they'll be paper mâché.

Thanks for the constructive feedback - I was thinking about seatstay-chainstay gussets to try to clean up the mess and reinforce a bit - don't you think 4-5mm would be a bit overkill though? Do I need to sandblast to get back to the raw aluminium, or is stripper ok as well (someone else had recommended that).
Also, do you have any recommendations of a metal shop that would do the gussets (obviously tig-welding because of the alu) ?

I've been a bit surprised that no-one picked up on the real reason for the first pic on this page - the Aero Aluminium Kinesis forks! I managed to get them at a good price with a perfect amount of steerer - I thought they looked better than the Time carbon ones I posted (to great encouragement - thanks @young_gun and @HHC ) on the page before - which I do still have, but haven't properly fitted yet.

My crap phone has finally broken, so I won't be able to subject you to such bad potato pics anymore, but I'll take better comparison pics soon when I have a new one (hopefully tomorrow).

@Thuekr thanks for the extra publicity on the rat bikes page - I already posted it there (without the kinesis forks) 2 pages before, but I didn't realise the image link had broken before, so I've fixed it ;)

For real though: still a student (Industrial Design Engineering), but I've been messing around with Photoshop in my spare time for quite some time.
