Well that was fun while it lasted. Coming around sharp corner along a one way street went straight into another cyclist crossing the road diagonally and in the wrong direction. I had no where to go so now the frame looks like this:
And my face looks like this:
Repair would cost a lot more than I paid for the frame so unfortunately this one will be replaced. I've apologised to it and tried to explain. So next stop is the Wanted section and to gaze longingly at some big boned NJS frames, which has been an ambition.

Auww. Condoleances on your loss...
-
• #31
Oh that's sad man! Was a lovely looking frame! Heal up and my condolences!
-
• #32
That sucks! Hang it on the wall and be sad.
-
• #33
Cheers peeps, resting up, head and right knee throbbing, all the while searching for a new frame. Do people rate Romets?
-
• #34
fuck. shit news dude. was liking that benotto a lot. i like the fact you are not fucking about though and getting on with the next one.
-
• #35
@Jimmy_Fingers I saw this crash happen! I crossed the road (on foot) just before you took the rh bend. It crossed my mind it might have been you but didn't recognise the bike.
It looked nasty. Slow but a bad fall. Someone was calling an ambulance. As a cyclist my second thought was 'is anyone gonna nick his bike' but you looked in good hands. Heal up dude. [and fit a brake/gear down!!!]

Was the other cyclist chill and apologetic, or are we talking ''soz pal'' then riding off into the sunset?
Ultimate bummer losing such a nice frame

The irony of you saying the last bit was there's a Dia Compe clamp on brake on order, and with the wheelset, also ordered, I was going to put a bigger sprocket on. I was only on the bike because my Guerciotti is in the LSB, and is only style there because the wrong part was delivered. The Benotto was my only operational machine.
Yeah I can't work out is there was something else I could have done to avoid him, but he was just right in front of me, side on as I came around the building. Fuck sticks.
-
• #38
He apologised, hung around a few seconds then fucked off. By then my glasses were smashed so I wouldn't even recognise him again if I saw him.
-
• #39
I think i actually exclaimed "no way" as I thought you were going to cut in behind him. But it never happened! To be fair... to do that looked like it would have taken all the commitment/madskidz.
Really glad you're OK. You left some clarat on the curb that was still visible this afternoon :-/

Aww. Bad news. Hope it can all get resolved without too much hassle and loss of money.
Frame the frame and place on wall is what I would do.
-
• #41
Haha yes, from recollection I keep asking myself why I didn't swerve inside him, maybe I froze or was groggy from sleep but I think I just saw him too late and just didn't expect to be heading directly for a cyclist side on down a one way street. Maybe better reactions may have saved me but I'm not sure, peeps on the roadside said there was nothing I could do, and blamed him entirely.
Haha I remember sitting up and seeing it splash down on the tarmac, dimly wondering if it was mine and where it was coming from.
@HHC cheers mate, shame because the build was really starting to come together, in facts parts for it will still be arriving, dammit.

I think the best way to describe it is my brain issued the 'brace for impact' order rather than the 'take emergency evasive action' one. Sorta beating myself up over it now.
-
• #43
Nothing you could have done about it with reflexes and all. Obviously I wasn't there but you probably came off better this way. only a few cuts and stuff.
-
• #44
I dunno, I keep asking myself what Joseph Gordon-Levitt would have done dammit. But you're right, I have to remind myself of the central message of Predator 2: shit happens.
-
• #45
Might've been a case of target fixation.
Anyway huge bummer dude; hopefully you'll find another nice frame soon! Glad you're OK.

Cheers for all the good wishes guys. Right so since I have all the bits I just need a frame. Have found a few options, depending on availability. Would appreciate any feedback:
60cm Maffioletti
58cm Romet Super Pista
another Romet, but £50 over budget
There's also a 61cm Track frame I'm tracking on fleabay:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Steel-Retro-Vintage-Track-Frame-24ins-61cms-/111742791852?hash=item1a0463b0acBy the looks of it it appears to be Brian Rourke, may be a little large for me though, 59cm or 60cm is sort of ideal.
Would like pointers which frame is the best for the monies as I'm largely unfamiliar with the frame builders, and this forum tends to yield a lot more info than google. Ta muchly

I personally really like the Lang Rover! Maffioletti seems a tad big?
-
• #49
And a bit too colourful for me! I've got a frame the same size, and the Benotto was 59.5, so tempted by it, but I concur, the Lang Rover is my favourite. Romet seem to be very well made Polish steel

The Benotto was my only operational machine.
what'd you do with the Batavus Course?
hope you heal up real quick mate. will let you know if I happen upon a suitable frameset
@peter_v It was an Aero clincher wasn't it? If so yes 100%. Then I'll need a matching pista high flange hub and get the wheel built up.
@Arawn yes that was the plan, desticker them and have a bombproof wheelset while I put together something more period correct
