  • I agree (even though I wouldn't vote for them). I think it's important to have a decent opposition to hold the Government to account - even more so in today's political landscape of close majorities when you'd have though they can have even more impact on policy.

(Although I still don't know why the left elements don't grow a pair and do a UKIP.)

  • First question: Daily Mail, Sun, Telegraph, Times, Daily Express

  • While I don't doubt the power and influence of Fleet Street. Surely declining readership and new "democratised" media and comms outlets mean they don't have to have the same influence on voters if the Labour Party got it's shit together? So I don't think you can lay all the blame at the right-wing media's door.

Look at how close the Scottish referendum was.

Labour MPs don't want him and won't let him succeed. It's indicative of how the Labour party work that Ed introduced a democratic system to incorage voters to help guide the party and those at the top are now trying to sabotage it because they're not getting the answer they want.

If you look at how they have run successive cabinets it has always been a dictatorial style. That's just how they roll as a party.

  • Ta for pointing that out.

  • First, the majority of England decided back at the end of the seventies that they didn't want socialism.

It's 2015. Lots of voters weren't born in the 70s.

What if, just what if, we all actually do want it, but just need someone we believe in?

What if all the UKIP voters only voted UKIP because Farage was the only leader who came across as honest? Might the disgruntled working class vote for JC?

America has chosen a black democrat president twice. If they can do that we can choose a left wing pm.

So fuck those fucking labour cunts who keep telling us why we shouldn't choose him, rather than why we should choose them, it's just more proof of how they are utterly out of touch with the mood of the nation.

I think we've all just had enough of negative campaigning and I think that's the reason JC will win.

  • Well said

  • Good post.

    Just on this point though,

Lots of voters weren't born in the 70s.

The problem is that they're not a significant enough voting force vs the older swing voters.

  • Cheers, wasn't trying to pass it off as my own, just copied and pasted from somewhere that didn't cite the source

  • Yeah. IRL my hope is that in 15 years or so the balance will tip.

  • Why are people always referring to what "England decided" back in the 70's?

Thats like 40 years ago, whoever decided that is either dead or old an irrelevant.

Plus, doesn't anyone who isn't an evil selfish tory still support the NHS and welfare state?
The NHS being perhaps the largest most radical, idealistic (and successful!) socialist 'thing' in history.

  • Don't be a tit, the % turn out at the last election from people who were around in the 70s put the apathetic younger voters to shame. Far from irrelevant. Have a look at the Scottish referendum too...

  • If you get all the apathetic young cunts to vote though, you're sorted.

  • Nando's voucher for every voter?

  • Oi oi cheeky!

  • And the Guardian. They're laying into him pretty heavily but more insidiously

  • Could be 'on here' - right age bracket.

  • Good luck with that. Turnout amongst the young was estimated at not much above half the turnout rate of the old. Add in the fact that there are more old people than young people and you are facing a major battle to win an election by appealing to younger voters.

  • Meh, they'll all die soon.

  • On the point about people rejecting Labour in the 70/80's, a lot has changed since then. We've had 30+ years of Thatcher, Blair, Brown and Cameron. Is it impossible to believe that people want a major shift back to the left, rather than the continuing gradual shift to the right?

And Corbyn, as leader of Labour, will have 4 - 5 years to stabilise the party and win over more of the general electorate. If he continues as he is doing now (no personal attacks, expand his policies, bring some ethics back into politics) I don't see why he couldn't swing 10% of voters and win.

  • I'd love him to win but don't think it'll happen... The right have got such a huge stranglehold on the media that his message won't get out, he'll get shouted down from all sides, vilified for his sartorial choices à la Michael Foote and generally made to look a fool...

The Luminarty know what makes Britain tick, they'll fill people's heads with fear and lies and tell them their mortgage payments are gonna rocket under Corbyn and the status quo will be maintained...

I'd love to see him get in...

  • I agree that the red tops are going to go to town on him. But have you heard him talk, or seen him in an interview? Even if you don't agree with all his policies, he is the real deal. An honest, serious thoughtful politician.

  • I have, he's a breath of fresh air... #iwanttobelieve

  • Great NuLab lelz with Mandelson's latest wheeze - trying to get the other three to pull out so the race is declared null and void. Then they can start over and make sure Corbs doesn't get enough nominations.

Democracy is such in inconvenience sometimes.
