  • Why is this article in the men section of the Torygraph...?

  • We're both faster than Laurens ten Dam, Tom. I'm expecting phone calls from team managers any minute...

  • I already had mine. Didn't they call you too?

  • Is this to check that your bike's bottom bracket motor? ;)

  • Ssshhhh!

  • What an awful crash. Heal up, Aimee. Also reproduced for the new page:

Calling all London Ride 100'ers who may be able to help me. I was involved in a crash yesterday around 10miles in near Trafalgar Square and Whitehall. I was knocked out and have no recollection of events, but from reports from people who helped so far it seems that a drunk black youth appx 6ft in jeans, black t-shirt with large writing on it had been causing trouble and obstructing the road, subsequently causing the accident.
From the garmin data I can see that I was just over 10miles into the ride. I departed at 6:21 and then after 29mins I had the crash. I hit the guy at appx 24mph and was sent flying off my bike head first 6meters down the road. The suspect ran off before the stewards could get hold of him.
I spent 7 hours in hospital yesterday. In some respects I was very lucky, no broken bones and the helmet did its job as it is now in a sorry state. I have lost one front tooth and chipped another and I have pretty nasty facial injuries. I was knocked out for 20-30sec and still have no memory of what actually happened. I didn’t even recall that another TCC member had stopped to assist or that a soldier was there trying to protect me from the other riders coming through.
I will be chasing up with the police again today to try and get them to be more proactive with the cctv in the area at the time of the accident. But wondered if anyone else riding yesterday noticed any trouble in that area around 6:40-7:00am from drunks causing disruption it would be really helpful as i'm trying to get as much info as possible to piece together what happened. Thanks to those that have already helped.

Saw this appeal for info from a TCC rider (Aimee Billington) involved in a crash yesterday. If anyone can give her some info, please get in touch with Twickenham Cycle Club.

  • Ballot is now open for next year's one.

    https://www.ridelondon.co.uk/events/100/entries/

  • how much?!?!

  • Can someone please explain me, why would they need my card details already?

  • £58 - similar price to last year, no?

  • Because you're donating your fees (that's if you signing up again)

  • So do they only take your money if you're successful in the ballot? or does the money get taken regardless of your entry?

  • You can do either I think - opt that they will take your money even if you're not successful and they will put it towards something good. Or you can opt for them not to do that and they will only take the money if successful.

  • Also (if I understood it correctly) if you donate and unsuccessful you'll be put into a second ballot with 1000 places for another chance to get picked.

  • If you don't opt to donate then they don't take your card details when entering the ballot.

Entered, will aim for sub 5 hours if I get a place, should be in reasonable form if I've got any hope of doing a not-shite time at IM Wales in 2016.

  • They've debited my £58 already. :P I best get a spot again!

  • same here .. does that mean I have a place and if I don't I'll get £58 refunded?

  • Did you un-tick the box about donating funds?

If like last year you didn't actually pay anything until after the ballot unless you agreed to donate it... I sense your monies are going to chariteee.

  • well accidental charity then .. if I dont get the place that is.

  • For 2014 I didn't donate my fee and was unsuccessfull in the ballot. As an experiment, to see if it gave a boost in the ballot, for 2015 I donated my fee. I was also unsuccessfull in the ballot. Conclusion; sample size is too small to draw any conclusion, ask me again in a few thousand years.

Given the whole thing is a charity jamboree just give 'em your damn money. It'll assuage the guilt when you turn up at the start, pretending to be your brother, having given the whole fund raising/sponsorship palaver a swerve.

  • 2014 donated fee and paid to get chance in second ballot. Didn't get in. Bought place from preferred charity. 2015 got ballot place. 2016 did not donate fee - if don't get in will buy another charity place. I doubt donating the fee makes any difference to your chances.

  • Ballot closes on Friday...

  • Presumably that means they've not had 100k entrants yet ...

  • Results should be out soon.

  • Posted out today

RideLondon-Surrey 100 ballot results will be arriving on doormats from 9th Feb
