Bob Jackson 531DS track/path frame 58.5/55

  • Nice track/path frame, in 531 designer select tubing.
Originally for 27" wheels, though I rode it with 700c wheels and 28mm tyres which worked well. Photos show it with that setup.
58.5cm CTC seattube, 55cm CTC top tube. Have reluctantly decided this doesn't fit me. Even with my T-Rex proportions I needed a ridiculously short stem to make it comfortable. I am quite oddly proportioned...
Paint has some scratches, though is a nice purple colour. A bit of retouching would turn it into a very nice beater, or you could get it fully resprayed.
Drilled for a modern allen brake on fork - not by me, but seems to have been done professionally. It's also got a mount for a rear brake though no cable routing.
Would greatly prefer collection from Brixton Hill so you can make sure you're happy with it, though could hand deliver in South London. Would prefer not to post if I can avoid it.
Let me know if you want more pictures - the below should click through to photobucket which should then allow you to use the magnifying glass for super hi-res...

£175 (open to offers if it doesn't sell in a week or two, but I need the money so am pricing everything high)

  • Will add a few more photos shortly - am worrying these don't show paint scratches clearly enough - there's a big missing bit of paint on the top tube you can't really see in these.

  • Possible dibs!

It's that 58.5cm that bothers me too! let me make a few calculations...

  • I get confused about geometry, but I think the seattube angle is such that it makes the top tube feel longer than it is - on paper 58x55 shuld be perfect for a t-rex like me, but I ended up riding it with something like a 60mm stem which looked ridiculous.

    The worst of the scratches...

  • I don't suppose you know the max tyre clearances for this?

  • I don't have anything bigger than 28c to try it with, but if you look at the bottom photos, I reckon you'd easily get 32s into it.

  • Forgot to mention, comes with Tange headset in near new condition.
(quite a low stack one - there wasn't sufficient thread on the forks to give many options).

  • how tall are you ?

  • and have you actually measured it ?

  • 5 foot 11, but very t-rex so I'm useless as a guide to bike fit... At a rough guess I'd think this'd suit someone of about 6 foot, but I could be totally wrong...

  • Measured what? The frame measurements are in the original post.

  • Sorry, I got confused when you said on paper 58x55.

  • Anyway, I do am riding a 58 square frame right now and indeed it is too long :(

So sadly it is better if I don't take this...so undibs :((((

  • I'd say you're spot on with size. I'm 6ft and ride a similar size frames with a 110-125 stems.

  • Bump - had forgotten about this... price drop, £165 collected from Brixton Hill.

  • Lovely frame.
I'm interested as a potential frame for my wife.
Any chance you could measure the standover please?
    Cheers.

  • I have seen the frame in the flesh and it worth every penny...my size and I would have bought it...the seller is a lovely chap too!

  • @privatepatterson I'll dig some wheels out of the attic and measure it a bit later today. Thanks @marxist_vulcan

  • I'd say it's very approximately 84cm with 700 wheels & 28c tyres. But only very approximately - all I had time to do was hold it up alongside one of my other frames. Will try and get wheels out later on, but if this sounds totally wrong then let me know as got someone else interested.
    Cheers

  • Cheers dude.
That's a little big but thanks anyway.
    Cheers, GLWS
