Is it normal to be able to see this gap? I am assuming it's the wave spring washer but just thought I should check.

  • Looking left to right, you have crank arm, non driver side spacer, optional 1mm spacer and then wave washer, and finally the bearing shield. This is the correct order of things.

The wave washer doesn't look particularly compressed, which is giving you the 'gap'. You could get a torque wrench and use it to check that the crank bolt is at the correct torque - which is about 40nm, stamped on the bolt itself. Do both the NDS and the DS. If both are at the correct torque, and there's no slide to side slop, you could leave things as they are. If there's some side to side slop or you feel something when you pedal, you can fit more 1mm spacers inbetween the NDS spacer and wave washer. You'll need the crank extractor tool to do so.

Pro-tip - pop some helitape on the crank arms to protect them from shoe rub.

  • It looks similar to the gap on my crankset (SiSLs on CAAD10) , which has been put together in the same way by two independent mechanics.
