Unscrew the clamp bolt so it comes out of the far side of the clamp entirely, then put a coin in the opening between the clamp and screw the bolt back so it touches the coin in between the clamp. Now when you tighten the bolt, it pushes against the coin and opens the clamp further. Don't push it too much though. You can also use some soap/grease on the bars to make them a little slippier. That's how I did it with my compact bars and quill.

bars are at a comfy height, not sure about slammage...form over function??
