There is a train at 19.24 that gets in 19.50. Wondering if that might be a better bet as it only stops at Watford before Hemel so less faffing with bikes if we are in doorways.
Is it worth the lost 15 minutes? Will the trains be busy in the holiday period? Who am I actually asking these question to?

Chilled turning in the Sunset?
(just as lacking satisfaction!)
-
• #8
would rather experience those 15 mins in daylight!

Normally I ride out so I can stop off at home for dinner, but Hemel's a bit of a detour for that, making it a ~35 mile ride out.
Is there actually a nice route from central to Hemel? Last time I tried going to Watford it was miserable, grey and full of traffic.

No, largely as whatever route you take you end up in Hemel.
Poor jokes aside, I think it is one of the less pleasant ride-outs but we should wait for an expert to come and give a fact based opinion.
Paging @Rod_Munch, @Rod_Munch to the information desk please.

Just out of interest, if you @ someone multiple times in 1 post do they get multiple reminders in their following page?

Do they @howradmichello?

No idea - maybe you could ask @middleofnowhere ?

Sorry @howradmichello someone had to be the guinea pig.

• #15
But really, do they @howradmichello?
-
• #17
Only the one update per post I'm afraid chaps - so @howradmichello is saved (sort of)...
Paging Rod_Munch, Rod_Munch to the information desk please.
C'mon guys you all know there are zero pleasant rides out to any of these WNKR destinations. It's all part of the epic suffering you must endure to reap the maximum highlights of the ride itself.*
*although the real highlight is getting rid of you fuckers for the ride home..

Let's take the later train @middleofnowhere. It's going to get dark no matter what anyway and commuter train aggro is definitely something I'd like to avoid.
And for the record, I don't think @Rod_Munch actually rides back, I think he eats his bananas for effect but then heads for the nearest carpark for some of that top drawer Home County Dogging of which he is so fond.
I can't explain his Strava though, maybe he pays someone to ride his garmin home? :( -

Apparently this is what I did last time (ignore the A100 bit - that was only because I was supposed to be meeting Will on the way out, and it was dead on the way back). I think the bit from Barnet onwards was alright though..

you might need to take the advice offered to some poor fellow in the Easts thread (who had a much milder dose of @howradmichello), that of skimming / skipping.. and a last resort is the 'ignore' feature i believe!!
-
• #22
my goodness, what you gonna do until 19.24?!
-
• #23
hires a deer, then eats it once at home
-
• #24
can we see a colour coded route for when you attach the Garmin to the deer?
-
• #25
these rides would get a lot more interest if they were posted as a thread in the 'rides and races' forum. like the good old days...
has there actually been anyone 'new' turn up to one of these rides? or is it still an exclusive bunch of guys who like to talk about lawnmowers?
or maybe everyone is fearful of jim's hardcoreness?
;-)
